I have 1500 on it to win an even 1k. I'm considering another wager on it @-170. I discussed this in an earlier thread. He was dominating against his last 2 opponents and they were both good quality. He did everything but knock those guys out. Torres won a very hard fought fight against Mightie Mike, where Holt simply beat the guy up. Obviously that doesn't equate to Holt neccessarily dominating or even winning but it's a good indication of where he is at NOW in his career. The question mark remains on his chin and the venue. Last weeks card seemed to indicate a foreigner can get a fair shake. Some had Calderon winning by a wider margin. Anywhos, I think Holt wins this one flat out. GL

Holt still -160 at SB

I might jump on the Holt bandwagon, but I'm not near as confident as some of you. Yes Holt is the better fighter here, but there are question marks about his chin. I'm one of the few who thought Torres deserved to win the fight over Arnaoutis. While Mike was clearly the better boxer, his punches had no effect, and Torres was hurting Mike with every punch he landed. My point is, I know Holt will outbox him for most of the fight, but at some point Torres will land his best punch and I'm not positive Holt can take it.

The other problem here is the venue. As Romi posted awhile back, last year there was a horrible robbery in Columbia when Moore dominated Pacheco for 12 rounds but lost the decision. The 2 judges who scored it for the Columbian were immediatly banned from boxing for life. From a betting standpoint, you can take that two different ways...1) Columbia is extremely corrupt and always will be so never lay wood on the away fighter 2) Boxing matches in Columbia are now under a microscope and any judge would be foolish to give the hometown fighter a bogus decision in fear of getting banned for life themselves.

Anyway, all that being said, I'll probably take the better fighter for a minumum play...hoping his chin holds up and the judges don't rob me...again

Torres by tko in 11. Holt was apparently ahead on the cards and only needed to last the last 2 rds.

Now I'm hearing that Holt may have gotten fcked in this one. I heard the mat was covered with beer, water, and ice and Holt kept slipping and couldn't get his proper footing. He was grazed by a shot in the 11th and lost his footing. He was up, but again he couldn't get his feet planted and the ref stopped the fight prematurely. Torres was ahead on one of the cards and only behind 1 point on another. Holt was going to get fcked one way or another. It appears Holt was dominating the fight going into the 11th.

:just want to add that this is unsubstantiated.

Did sound like the venue became a factor- don't sweat it Romi- you seem the most willing to put your money out there, and you'll reap the benefits of putting your money out there on the next one we hit... this is very much like running a fund in the stock market- very short term don't mean squat. We won't know until we see the fight, but it goes to show- if you have a guy hurt overseas...you better finish him because they'll find a way to take it away.

Not sweating in the least, but I do need to put it into conservative mode the next few weeks. Most if not all of us were well aware of the venue advantage Torres held. We also knew Holt had a question mark on his chin. It looks like both played a part in the outcome.

I agree 100% with your stock market analogy. I'm way up on the year and if worse came to worse I have a stop loss point as to where I would stop wagering for the remaining months and still guarantee myself a pretty good year. As of right now, I would still say the year has been nothing short of excellent. I'm quite confident the winning ways will return shortly.

Sounds like the chin was more of a factor than anything - I think there is something on boxingscene.com ... but Torres can crack and it sounds like he never gave up, kept coming late despite Holt's heavy counters, so Torres may be due some credit. Like you said we all seemed to be aware of 2 risks- chin and venue but Holt's form as of late- hammering Arnaoutis and Hlatschwayo- 2 competent boxers and having Torres very hurt- it was a good bet that lost.

If the WBO reverses the result and rules differently...any chance we get the wager voided?

No chance in a million. As far as wagers are concerned the result of the fight on fight night is final. I don't know what the time frame is but an NC would have to have been called immediatlely afterwards to have bets returned. A similar situation was Toney/Ruiz. An NC was declared 10 days later but the bets were final on fight night.

....

....

I saw the whole fight. Holt should have been way ahead on the cards. The stoppage was a bit quick but Holt bent over like he wasn't defending himself. I have seen much worse stoppages.
