I was told from some guys at work that this part requires soldering, I didn't consider doing it myself.
If your computer is only 30 months old, I can assure you that there is no soldering required. Now if it was 15 years old, maybe . . . . .

It definitely sounds like the power supply, has the sound of the computer chabged lately??? By that I mean has it gotten louder, or does it sound like the fans are fluctuating at all??? If the power supply seems ok, check to make sure the fans are cooling as a hot machine will act like what you're describing. A good sniff near the P.S. will tell youfor sure, they smell burnt. Good luck!!!

Well, dude down at the ol shop says I might be in deep shit.

He hooked up a new power source, and it "popped" as soon as he fired up the machine. He said he was going to "try a few more things", and get back to me.

By the way.......he said it smelled burned when I brought it in to him.

Well.....the verdict is in.

The motherboard is shot. It seems that eMachines have a history of this behavior, and mine has joined the list.
