I recently purchased a 52' samsung lcd television and the speakers on this television are absolutely horrible,any time there is any bass it sounds like a $10 radio.I have to buy a home theatre sytem.
Anybody here have a system they are happy with?
There are way to many choices on the brands and power but I want something that I can use ONLY hdmi cables.There lots of receivers that let you pass video thru the hdmi but not audio.
I have seen several in the 7.1 format,like the onkyo 6100 & 7100 but I am really only wanting a 5.1 system.
Please chime in if you have some good advice.

I bought a 5.1 Panasonic system about a year ago. I am happy with the sound and quality but to be honest I will look at other brands next time. The one thing I don't like about it is that I can't control the volume on the rear speakers. They are set at a certain level for best sound. GL.

Sony offers some great values in receivers that do HDMI switching at lower price levels ($200-$300).

Great brand name - great value IHMO

I bought mine a couple of years ago. Went to Circuit City and the kid there helped me piece mine together. Ended up with the Onkyo TX-SR573 reciever, Bose speakers (5 of the small double cubed ones) a Bose bass and a different brand bass. Absolutly love it. Get the rumble from the front and back.

i have a medium sized pioneer i got last year and it`s all hooked up via hdmi....i have a jbl speaker system(the weakness of the system even though the sub-woofer`s unreal) and have a few dcm loudspeakers substituted for a couple of the jbl`s....


6 speakers and the center channel and sub-woofer...

i was on here last year saying that sub-woofers were overrated and somebody set me straight...the sub-woofer is the whole ballgame(that and getting your delays set up to your liking)....

this stuff is addictive.... love it....

pretty much got everything at best buy,....

it`s the pioneer vsx-971v multi-channel receiver....i think it`s the smaller end of the spectrum.....but i can`t crank it...it`s too much.....

i think i turned it up above half-full volume once....

i have it set up with my comcast box and a panasonic hi def dvd recorder/vcr....

i gotta say it took me several evenings to get it all the way i wanted it....

this is considered old now i guess...i see all new models at the website...

well,my search is over I am getting a Onkyo HTS6100B,it is the 7.1 system but I found a pretty good deal and this system does everything that I want and it is the price range that I like.

that`s nice..great deal....seems like an awful lot of stuff for the money....

the only thing i would have done was gotten a dvd recorder...why pay for dvd`s or rentals when you can record in hi-def from your cable provider.....

just my opinion...

congrats...i`m sure you`ll love it and it`s probably gonna be easier to hook up being an all-in-one system....:toast:

Pel, you're going to like that system. I have a friend that has it and it sounds great. Now you'll always have those audio heads that will pick it apart but for the avergage joe it sounds awesome.

I cringed when you were paying money for a 5.1 but glad to see you go with the 7.1.

Ihave the Harmon Kardon 7.1 and my advice to you would be to go BIG on the center channel.

You definitely can tell the difference in a nice center channel verses a system speaker set....

i misspoke...

it`s not true blue ray "hi-def" quality..... but all of my recordings are of very high quality....and the sound is amazing....

i just can`t see buying a blue ray and all the movies....the technology keeps changing...

i can record,and if i decide not to keep a recording,i can erase it and record something else...or,if i decide to keep a recording,i can finalize it and play it on pretty much most players...

and i`ve up-converted lots of home movies and sports vcr tapes .....

maybe i lose a little picture quality compared to blue ray......still,it`s pretty damned good.....and i`m saving a lot of dough and have a lot of flexibility...

i can`t see buying movies...or even renting them...

of course, i`m tighter than joan rivers` face...

I have a samsung 2500 blu ray player and I can tell you that the picture is jaw dropping good.
I know that if I would go with something besides the home theatre in a box,htid,it would be a better sounding system but everytime I tried to put something together the price just kept going up and up.
Infinity makes a real good center channel,I blieve it is in the primus family and it is HUGE,I may upgrade to it later
