HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Da Bomb - Beaten favorite has tactical speed to sit a perfect trip; will be the one to catch in the lane.

Maeve - Dead late closer was left with too much to do in last; big class drop can only him her cause.

Long Shot - Primadonna Pearl

Race 2 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $40,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Haka - Christophe Clement barn is a puzzling 0-for-12 so far this meet; we know he sent out better talent than that.

Surprise Party - Filly has taken on the boys in England, and won; gets Garrett Gomez and Lasix, could be any kind.

Long Shot - Woman Warrior

Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 2-year-olds

Familiar Shine - Did everything but win last time as a beaten choice; each field he faces gets a little slower.

Push Over - Outran his 12/1 odds when a fast closing second; ran by the chalk in last like he was a telephone pole.

Long Shot - Asnaan

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Setsuko - If he doesn't win a race like this, he may never win; Richard Mandella adds blinkers on for the money shot.

Broken Tango - Got an education in debut for Bob Baffert; Martin Garcia lost the whip, but it didn't cost him a win.

Long Shot - B. I. Guy

Race 5 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

Outside Shot - Like the parking lot post in this elongated sprint; hard trying grinder will fight it out late.

Action in May - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low level; need not be much to beat these.

Long Shot - Brian the Bold

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Fleet Royale - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; reaching a now or never condition.

Sky Account - From parking lot post 10, has tactical speed to gain a position; loses Joel Rosario to Flashy Traveler.

Long Shot - Flashy Traveler

Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $38,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Rainbow Goose - Has settled into a consistent, gritty turf performer; edge is a number of recent, solid efforts.

Compari - May be the most talented horse in the race; been away 8-months and is not a natural sprinter.

Long Shot - El Martillo

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 2-year-olds

Six Eighteen - Easy graduation win at 4/5 odds; facing winners for the first time, many of these are his friends.

Straightomidnight - A. C. Avila barn continues to cash paychecks left and right; figures to be part of the number.

Long Shot - Onemoreforarch

Best Bet - Setsuko (race 4)

Hollywood Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/6/$31.80; Long Shots, 8/2/$19.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.60

Hollywood Totals - 378/97/$600.00; Long Shots, 185/28/$278.80; Best Bets, 22/11/$38.40

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #4 Fasola (5/2) in race 10 at Tampa Bay Downs. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Kissa Melissa ran third at Aqueduct paying $2.20 to show. Stats - 186/134/$1,043.30

December 17, 2009

Wednesday night proved profitable as we headed off to Charles Town, Turfway Park, and Delta Downs.

I had three winners on top in ten races, good for a +31% +ROI for the evening. We knocked down four exactas, paying $16.00, $48.00, $37.20, and $52.60.

That sure beat spending the evening at the mall doing some Christmas shopping.

I did not get around to looking at Charles Town, but I think I came up with several playable races at Turfway Park and Delta Downs for Thursday evening:

Turfway Park Race 2
#4 Inquisition was the beaten fav last out at Hawthorne at this level, checking in fourth. The runner up and fifth place finisher in the race both came back to win their next starts. He is back with McPeek and his lone go on the fake stuff was a decent fourth versus $7.5K non-winners of two back in October. Use #6,#11,#8 in exotics.

Turfway Park Race 4
#10 Archie Tucker set the early fractions and tired to finish ninth against open $5K claimers. Three back when last in for restricted company the gelding beat $10K non-winners of three over the main track here. The gelding has won 3 of 9 over the poly here. The gelding drops into a softer spot here facing non-winners of three in ?09 or non-winners of four lifetime. Use #6,#11,!2 in exotics.

Turfway Park Race 7
#5 Touch of Success stretches out to a mile after finishing a non-threatening seventh going six furlongs. The filly has only been two turns once in her career, a fifth place finish three back where the filly was fanned out seven wide for the stretch drive, making a mild late run. The barn is 21% winners moving runners from sprint to route. Has the look of a live longshot here and worth a look if we catch most of the 12/1 morning line. Use #6,#8,#2 in exotics.

Turfway Park Race 8
#5 Oh Charlie Boy faded badly in the Iroquois last out at Churchill Downs going a mile, drops in class, and returns to the fake stuff. Two back at Presque Isle in his stakes debut he was fifth in a highly graded race won by Noble?s Promise, who exited that race to win the Breeders? Futurity (G1) at Keeneland, then run a game third in the Breeders? Cup Juvenile (G1). The colt is one of two in here that has beaten winners, taking a Alw-2L race at Mountaineer Park in August in his first go against winners. Use #2,#1,#4 in exotics.

Delta Downs Race 7
#8 El Tormento could get the late Pick 4 off to a good start if he can score near his 15/1 morning line. The gelding dueled for the early lead and weakened to finish fifth last out in his first go off a three-month break. Two back he was fourth behind repeat winner My Project Runway, who beat $3.5K non-winners of three in his next start. The gelding does not need to move forward all that much second off the bench to be in the mix here. Use #7,#5,#6 in exotics.

Delta Downs Race 8
#8 Cold and Windswept was a sharp winner against $4K claimers last out in her first go off nearly a three-month break. The mare has now won 3 of 7 over the main track for the Richey barn that is hitting at a 37% clip at the meeting. Looks capable of wining right back. Use #9,#5,#2 in exotics.

Delta Downs Race 9
#4 Passion Rules is a Woodbine invader and will be making his first start on conventional dirt. The Asmussen trainee ran huge in his second career start going five furlongs on the fake stuff, drawing clear to win by ten lengths. He looks like he has been facing tougher than he catches here. The gelding has four sibs that are winners including stakes winner Party Maker (3 for 5, $114K). Use #8,#1,#7 in exotics.

Delta Downs Race 10
#3 Abram?s Creek was dismissed at 26/1 in his debut but shoed some good early speed dueling for the early lead before weakening to finish sixth. The winner Mountain Ride came back to beat $10K non-winners of two in his next outing on Nov. 18. The third place finisher in the race was Resolved Issue, who checked in third in the state bred Kudzu on Dec. 11. Lasix is added to the mix here. Use #9,#8,#2 in exotics.

Good luck today!

In the shadows
I have been in a funk,
back and neck a tweaked,
I have been hunched over
and look like a question mark !?!? :mj07:

You can't let the anger overwhelm you,
it does you no good, just leads to headaches.

I am off to the Coast Today for the "Big Dogs"
Christmas Party, then back here until the 23rd.

Back to the coast on the 23rd thru the 26th, fly
to Oregon on the 27th thru the 4th to be with my kids and we a re going to Mt Bachelor for 4 days of Skiing.

So, I will be out of the loop for those days.
Maybe a few plays  , I dunno ?

Going from 76 degrees to 16 degrees !!!!!!!!! :scared :scared :scared
