Four years after it was pitched to Ohio voters as an entertainment option to create jobs and boost Downtown, the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati will open today as the nation?s newest gambling hall.
Thousands of patrons are expected to visit when doors open to the public at 8:30 p.m.
Visitors are invited to begin lining up outside the front of the casino at the corner of Court Street and Eggleston Avenue starting at 6 p.m.
The casino?s parking garage won?t be open to the public until Tuesday morning. Members of the general public who would like to visit the casino tonight are encouraged to take advantage of free off-site parking at The Banks Garage, 100 E. Pete Rose Way.
Horseshoe Cincinnati will offer continuous, round-trip shuttle service between that garage location and the casino from 6 p.m. tonight through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Shuttle buses will drop off guests at the corner of Court and Reedy streets near the casino.
Starting Tuesday, parking in the 2,500-spot casino parking garage is free for guests and non-guests alike on weeknights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and on weekends, except for special events.
The $450 million casino features 2,000 slot machines, 87 gambling tables and a 31-table World Series of Poker Room. The complex also has six sit-down restaurants with a seventh on the way. It?s operated by Caesars Entertainment Corp., which operates more than 40 casinos worldwide.
Cincinnati?s casino is the last of four authorized by Ohio voters in 2009 when they amended the state constitution to allow expanded gambling beyond lotteries. Casinos in Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo opened last year.
The Horseshoe employs 1,700 people.
