Took two vacations since being here... . away from PARX/all hoss wacin for well over a month and a week in Vegas 08/29 - 09/05.
Last time I did the Vegas vac. was over 12 yrs. ago and rated it an "A" asfaras vacations go, after this trip it gets a "D". :mj02:
- Costs - OUTRAGOUS! The Mrs. wanted to try one of the best buffets so we took the dang "Duese" bus ($16, cheap 3 1/2 mile each way of a round trip from downtown) to the strip. Taking a taxi is a rip-off+. Walked for miles which included up and down escalators, one of which didn't work, to negotiate the gruesome walking along the strip, looking for a GOOD dinner and FINALLY found one at Aria's. Hmmm... ONLY a hundred bucks for 2 people. Oh, that was after seeing one at Bally's for- GET THIS -> $200 for ONE person! :0032
-Transportation: We always rented a car cause our Vegas vacs. were always for a full week... NO CAR THIS TIME though. Great move with that decision cause sitting in stop and go traffic with a bunch of drunks around you in 90+ degree heat ain't such a good idea. Oh, and PAYING TO PARK your car goes along with every other change we noticed these days in Vegas. Planes, buses, trams, etc. ... ALL torture tests (plane each way included a one stop in Atlanta). Delta changed the gate 3 freakin times on our return trip and we got very lucky each time that somebody saw us at the wrong gate each time - TORTURE). Make sure the shoes you wear have plenty of soles left and better be very comfortable too.
-Gambling: Slots were screwed down TIGHT for the holiday I guess, no more rolling a "12" playing craps to get paid a Triple.. it's now a Double and Blackjack payoffs are reduced at some of the strip hotels as well. I practiced playing "Bubble Craps" (look it up in YouTube) and turned $100 into $300 in about 40 mins. on my first day.
Second day, turned $100 into $220. On my third assault on Bubble Craps.. I turned a $100+ into zero dollars on another day. Oh, when the casino turned a little sour, I hit the sportsbooks and did pretty good. Played ONLY two races at Parx (is there any other place to bet hosses?) and hit both. Second hit was a ($200+ a little) exacta. Had luck with college footsbawl, hit 3 of 4 single plays I made, two of which were for $55 to win $50. Yeah, the wallet opens a lot wider when you're in Vegas. I think our total gambling results for the week amounted to about a $100 loss and that ain't bad.
- Weather : Absolutely beautiful and most days were, surprisingly, in the 80's.
-Free Dwinks ? : There's a report on YouTube about "No more Freebies". NOT TRUE. The chicks are still coming around singing the "Cocktails?" thingy and will get a drink for you even if you're just sitting in front of a slot machine and not even playing it. Just tip them and the'll be back to you wherever you are. I had a 5 dollar bill handy to tip one beauty for our drinks and she came back almost running afterwards with a second two and just put them down in front of us without pausing for a tip at all.
Advice? - Unless you prefer exercising your ass off to see the OVERKILL of dazzle, glamour, extravagance, bling (not sure if that's the right word?), lights, navigating the humongous structures to find the casino, and crowds on the strip.... spend most of your time downtown. Tellya, it's really too muckn futch with all the glitz each hotel shows off to outdo the others, it actually got boring. You'll save PLENTY and you can hit 7+ hotels/casinos easily on foot downtown. Yes, Triple payout on the "12" at two or more of them and correct payout for being dealt Blackjack at all of them. Oh, bring a pair of earplugs with-ya for the late nights at the Freemont Experience thingy. I didn't need them for a couple of the bands out there playing live music, you know - REAL music not the blah, blah, blah screaming ones.
. You will see things you won't forget downtown that are just hilarious.
BTW, I really didn't have earplugs, I just couldn't resist that funny line.
Overall, I can't say I didn't enjoy the vacation, but no way nearly as much as I did in the past.
Ooops almost forgot what this post was supposed to be about..
Good ole Philly wace twack:
Capped the 7th race for today (Sat.) and came up with two horses with nice and VERY nice odds that I believe that, at least, one may be in the exacta pic. Checkout nos. 2, Lil Miss Hotshot, and 7, Ignite, which is a hoss that I've had luck with in the past and I think belongs in this race ESP. with that 20/1 M.L.
I'm also gonna do something with the 8th race today but I'm not sure about making a trip back here. G.L.
