HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY ?

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming. --Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they Grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with. --Kirsten, age 10

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then. -- Camille, age 10

No age is good to get married at. You Got to be a fool to get married. --Freddie, age 6

HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?

You might have to guess, based on Whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids. --Derrick, age 8

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?

Both don't want any more kids. --Lori, age 8

WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?

Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough. --Lynnette, age 8

On the first date, they just tell each other lies, and that usually
gets them interested enough to go for a second date. --Martin, age 10

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?

I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the
newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns. --Craig, age 9

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

When they're rich. --Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that. --Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do. --Howard, age 8

IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

I don't know which is better, but I'll tell you one thing. I'm never
going to have sex with my wife. I don't want to be all grossed out. --Theodore, age 8

It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them. --Anita, age 9

HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?

There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there? --Kelvin, age 8

And the #1 Favourite is........
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?

Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
--Ricky, age 10

Hilarious.

Hey AR182, you must be pretty stoked about the Yankees. This makes their offseason almost as good as the Jays', but not quite ;). Gonna be awful tough handling that Toronto lineup without a lefty starter. I wouldn't worry about Boston. What are the odds that an entire lineup can have career years two years in a row? Not bloody likely.

Jays, Yanks, A's & Sox in the AL. Braves, Marlins, Giants & Reds (sleeper pick) in the NL. At least that's how I see 'em on 2/19.

Nick -

You're predicting that three teams from the AL East will make the playoffs? Hate to break it to you, but uh....that's not possible...

I like Toronto's improvements, but not as much as you like 'em. The pitching is better, but still not good enough. My buddy and I were just having this conversation last night. It's conceiveable the Jays could win 95 games and miss the post-season because they've got (probably) the two best teams in the league in their own division.

Really sucks to be in this division. At least if we were in the Central we'd have a crack at winning it now and then, since no team ever dominiates it for a long period of time. But winning the East with that $180 million lineup in it is pretty much out of the question, leaving 1 wildcard spot for us to fight the rest of the league for. And no hope of Toronto (or Baltimore or Tampa Bay for that matter) ever having homefield advantage for ANY playoff series, since the WC is always seeded #4. There's gotta be a way we can convince Cleveland or Detroit to swap divisions with us. :D

AR182 - great post!

GM - I hate to speak for Nick but I believe he meant the White Sox in the AL not the Red Sox. Regardless, I'll agree to disagree with his picks as I see the Blue Jays being a year away from making the playoffs. Actually I think neither the Giants, Reds, White Sox, A's or Marlins will make the playoffs. Also, there is no way that the Red Sox and Yankees both DON'T make the playoffs this year. As much as hate to say it, Boston's pitching will make the crown for the East a season-long battle once again...

Yes, it was the White Sox. Thought that was pretty intuitive. I also agree that it is unlikely that both Boston and New York would miss the playoffs, that's why I have the Yankees picked in there.

Cubbies look solid but I like Cincinnati. So many question marks all over the field for Chicago (was Lee a contract player last season, will Wood's back hold up, will Maddux return to form (not likely), etc.) Cincy has a stacked-to-the-gills lineup when healthy with enough lefties to really excel in that division. Again, they are definitely an underdog, but that's my sleeper pick.

To be honest I thought the second most controversial pick would be the Braves because of what the Phils have done, not the Sox, Marlins, A's or Giants.

nick,

i am not as excited about a-rod as most yankee fans. don't get me wrong, i think it was a great trade.

believe it or not, imo, offensively the trade is a wash because yankee stadium is "death valley" for right handed hitters, & the texas stadium is pretty friendly to hitters. if you look at the stats for a-rod & soriano during the last 2 years & take into account about the ballparks, you will see not much difference in their stats.

the yanks will benefit more from this trade on the defensive side because i think a-rod's quick reflexes will amake him a great fielding 3rd baseman.

but we all know that pitching separates the champs from the challengers. the yanks have too many question marks, for my taste at starting pitching to win the world series. plus the yanks for the 1st time in memory don't have a left handed starter. they need a guy like pettite or the pitcher they gave up for weaver(forgot his name). however, if brown stays healthy, & lieber returns to pre-injury form, & contreares lives up to his potential, i think that the yanks have a very good chance to win it all.

we will see!!

My apologies Nick...it didn't even occur to me that you might have meant the other Sox. Sheesh. I guess I just have Red Sox and Yankees on the mind. I couldn't really imagine anyone picking EITHER of them to not make it.

Take a look at Toronto's pitching staff. It will be their/our downfall again this year. Some improvements were made, but aside from Halladay the Jays pitching was god-awful last year. They cannot compete for the entire season with those arms, and the bullpen will wear down, as usual. Also, I expect Halladay will slip up a bit this year. It's very very difficult for someone to put up a 3rd year of THAT quality after two solid years. I think it's inevitable he has a bit of a down year. Probably still good for 15 wins though.

I hate to be negative about my team, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to even find Jays fans in this city (realistic ones anyways) who are as optimistic about the team as you are. The offence is fine, no problems. JP Riccardi is doing a great job given the dwindling attendance and orders to cut payroll...yet still improving the team at the same time. I can't say enough about the job he is doing. But the reality is...Boston and the Yankees just have too much firepower over the long haul for us to compete.

AR,

Lilly was the guy the Yanks gave up and the Blue Jays acquired him this offseason. He is a big reason I like Toronto to finish above the Sox.

Yanks could use a lefty, that's for sure. If you look at it, though, as long as you have lefty relief I think you can still do OK. Remember Redman and Willis were non-factors for the most part in the postseason for the Marlins and they won it all.

He is a big reason I like Toronto to finish above the Sox.

i think this is the 7th year in the row that the jays finished in 3rd place in the east division....

this team will ALWAYS be constantly underacheiving because the fans don't care about them, why should players???

we'll see the same story again....the jays will be hot out the gate with their offense....we'll see like 8-6 or 10-7 games then the pitching will collapse and the offense will go stone cold as they cool off by all star break and tease the fans with OH SO BEING CLOSE to 2nd and 1st place again...and being in contention for the wildcard......then AFTER the all star break, the Jays will think that's it's the offseason already and not even be around when the Yanks and Sox will be contending for the playoff spoils, while trying to fend off baltimore in their rear view mirrors and lie to the fans again, about being REALLY positive about next year's chances.....

blah, blah, blah.

remember kids, i'm NOT a sports fan, i'm a handicapper FIRST.

We're number three!!! we're number three!!!!!

i have to agree with GM on this one...with economics, we can't compete with the teams will the higher payrolls.

OH, and to add, i think Doc will have another good year.
