noon sunday we had 2 inches of snow and we expect ice later here in raleigh.i had a dilemma.no beer in the house and ball games about to start.went 6 blocks to buy case of beer-it takes days for roads to clear-we don't get snow often no snowplows in south.sold my audi and had to drive 1983 porsche.well on the way back going 10 mph i tried to turn right onto street but slid onto sidewalk.3 cars stopped and we pushed car back onto street and now am home ok with beer and roaring fire.2 things here.1-we southerners do not know how to drive in snow2-we do not want to be snowbound without beverage of choice.

yeah i hear ya. ive had plenty of years to practice and have become quite adroit in my snow driving. nothin sucks worse than being at the mercy of the roads. even when youre careful and driving slow, theres times when you just glide and pray you stop before you hit the car in front of you or the curb or whatever. even cars that are well-equipped for handling the conditions are no sure thing. gotta be careful for sure

just a guess here lowell, but $50 says you had your foot on your brake during the turn.......do NOT brake while in a turn on slick roads....just ease off the gas, and you won't end up on sidewalks ;)

YOU DON'T....Living in Texas, I've seen first hand what icy roads does to the state...it shuts it down. I suggest you call in sick, get a nice bottle of Gran Marnier, and a good porn if you don't have a your significant other handy...no pun intended...and enjoy mother nature at it's best...

you may be right about trying to brake.sold my all road audi and it ate up the snow.the porsche has weight in rear and do not think the germans drove them much in the snow.glad i made it home.last yr we had ice storm and lost power for about 5 days.it was no fun.

You guys should see the grocery stores 12 hrs before they forecast 2 inches of snow here in NC. People are in line w/ bread, flashlights, generators, enough water to fill an olympic pool, dehydrated food, etc. They think the end of the world is coming. Next big forecast we get I'll take a digital to the store and take some pics of the barren isles and long lines, it's quite funny for a displaced yankee like myself

Upstate NY here also. Snow is a factor of life here from novemebr to April.

1. Have to go slower. No brainer but some many knuckleheads think they can go just as fast in the snow.

2. Give yourself plenty of room between cars. Tailgating in the snow is recipe for disaster.

3. Like bahama mama said, you have to avoid locking up the brakes. Pump them if you have to but don't apply full force. Once you lock them, you at the cars mercy. it will go where it wants.

4. Take a few minutes and brush all the snow off the car, including the lights. Always laugh when i see someone going down the road with there lights on and two inches of snow covering them.

I have had two cars totaled in last five years from being rear ended by people driving too close and too fast. So SLOW DOWN and give yourself plenty of room!!!!

I would love to see these people that panic what they would do if they had 10 inches of snow outside their homes.

Guys this is a great 4X4, awesome power, tremendous traction ( its nickname is "Traction King") operates on farm grade diesel legally, (lower fuel taxes). May be a little slow but for short 6-10 block runs no big deal. Very intimidating appearance means people get out of your way. ;) :tongue
