how do you insert pictures into your posts?

First of all your pic has to be on the web somewhere so you can link to it.
click the IMG button above the text box when posting and insert the url for the image.
Thats the short description, if thats not enough bring this back up and I will go into detail.

when i do that all i get is the link, not the pic itself, what next? Obviously theres another step im too stupid to figure out ...

Just so I am clear here, you are pressing the IMG button and inserting the link in the pop-up box, right? If you are doing that the the link should not appear, if it is done INCORRECTLY a little box with a red X is all you would get, that means the link is bad.
If you have some kind of instant messaging I can walk you through it.

For example,
If I just type in the link without putting it in the IMG box I get this:
http://winningplays.hypermart.net/thefinger.gif
If I put it in the IMG box INCORRECTLY I get this:
If I put the correct link IN THE IMG BOX I get this:
Been messing around with changing sizes as you can tell.
Feel free to bring up again if this doesn't help enough.

Sorry Gregg, if you are doing it correctly and only getting the link to show up it is because you are trying to post a pic somewhere other than General discussion where the image option is turned off, sorry, this is probably what you are referring to and I missed the point.
