Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
My heart is out to Vegas and the many people devastated.

Any big city or major outdoor event could be a target
of this kind of action by a fringe political group or a deranged whack-job.

Think of ONE well placed single shot fired at the Super Bowl crowd?

Nevada is one of the MOST gun friendly states in the union, thats has to change.

How is it ANY individual can purchase 40-50 guns in the first place, and apparently unlimited ammo?

Gun Dealer permits should be limited to store front owning full time dealers.
NO permits to weekend gun show circuit "dealers", period.

One gun purchase every 2 years, period. Yearly Federal permit fee to have one.

I fear it is TOO late for ANY serious action, Pandora's box is open and the world is a sea of guns.

300 million guns in the U.S.

According to the Congressional Research Service, there are roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all.
....................................................

that is enough guns for almost every man woman and child in America.

its beyond repair

WASHINGTON ― Following the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history, House Republican leaders came before the press on Tuesday and made it clear they intend to do absolutely nothing on guns.

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) emphasized a comprehensive mental health reform bill that Republicans and Democrats passed into law in 2016 as a key effort by Congress to protect people from attacks such as the one in Las Vegas Sunday night.

He also pointed to Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) as a symbol of ?healing.? (Scalise was joining other House leaders for his first press conference since being seriously wounded by a gunman in June during a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game.)

?Just Steve being back here today, it?s evidence of the power of miracles, the power of prayer, of us healing and getting back together,? Ryan said. ?Our fellow citizens need both of these things right now.?

Ryan, when asked specifically what Congress was doing to protect people from mass shooters, had little to offer other than his comments on prayers and healing. The mental health bill he touted focused on ensuring there isn?t a shortage of psychiatric hospital beds, rather than addressing the availability of guns.

?Mental health reform is the critical ingredient to making sure that we can try and prevent some of these things that have happened in the past,? Ryan insisted.

When the reporter tried to follow-up with a question about Republicans undoing an Obama administration regulation in February that would make it tougher for certain mentally ill people to get a gun, Ryan ignored it.

Instead, he went to veteran budget reporter Jonathan Nicholson from Bloomberg BNA, seemingly expecting a question about House Republicans adopting a budget this week that will help advance tax reform.

But Nicholson asked about the February GOP bill that rolled back a regulation requiring those who had applied for Social Security disability benefits because of ?mental incompetency? undergo an FBI background check before purchasing a gun.

?There were people who were, whose rights were being infringed,? Ryan answered. ?And that wasn?t just, it was ― it?s a little more complicated than you?re describing.?

?You don?t think that goes in the opposite direction of what you just said?? Nicholson pressed.

?Protecting people?s rights was very important, and that?s what that issue?s all about,? Ryan answered, moving on to a third and final question.

He called on Wall Street Journal reporter Kristina Peterson, who asked about the so-called sportsmen bill, which would mostly just allow more federal land to be used for hunting but could offer a natural venue for lawmakers to debate gun control.

Ryan said he had no plans to bring up the bill at this time, and then pivoted to the budget, which he noted he did plan to put on the floor this week as a step toward Republicans delivering on tax reform.

The entire press conference was an exercise in ducking questions and pivoting. Asked what Congress was doing about guns, Ryan cited mental health reforms. Asked about Republicans making it easier for the mentally ill to purchase firearms, Ryan said it was about protecting rights. And asked about a specific bill that involves firearm use, Ryan?s answer was tax cuts.

How? The NRA simply has too much money for lobbyists. Why are cigarettes legal? Same reason.

When something doesn't make sense and is, in fact, downright stupid but allowed to happen, follow the money.

Let's just keep doing the same two things and see what changes:

#1 - Offer thoughts and prayers to the victims
#2 - Offer excuses as to why gun laws can not be changed

hey it's 2017, why on earth should we even consider changing something from 1791!?!

I'm sure when they wrote this stuff they totally had in mind automatic weapons and maximum damage ammunition. not some musket that took 15 minutes to load and shoot once.

Shooter had devices on 12 guns for faster firing

Associated Press

Federal officials say the Las Vegas shooter had devices attached to 12 weapons that allow semiautomatic rifles to mimic fully automatic gunfire.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Special Agent in Charge Jill Schneider also told reporters Tuesday that Stephen Paddock had nearly 50 guns in three locations.
She said he had a combination of rifles, shotguns and pistols.
The gun attachment that mimics automatic gunfire is a little-known device called a "bump stock" that was not widely sold. The stocks have been around for less than a decade, and Schneider said officials determined they were legal.

I think it'd be a lot safer around this joint if majority carried a weapon... Darnell would probably think twice about takin your purse if he knew the majority are carrying a weapon. How about Jose and the burritos he's walking around with.. don't think they would act the way do in public if they know the majority had a weapon just like them.

Seems to work in other countries. Why couldn't it work here? The rhetoric you spew is simply an excuse to not try and solve the problem.

Do other countries not have a black market? Do other countries just not have criminals? Seems unlikely that those would be the reasons.

1st of all I don't think anybodys realistic solution is to shut down all gun stores and take away all the guns. That won't happen. The issue is too big and out of control for a solution like that. Plus people are too ape shit about loving their guns, theyd have an aneurysm if that was a solution put forward.

What probably would make sense is eliminating the selling of automatic rifles and high powered ammunition. As well as accessories that make your weapon automatic.

IMO if you need a gun you need it for 1 of 2 things. Hunting or protecting your home. Who needs a fucking high powered assault rifle to hunt or protect their home?

And yes ignorance is deadly. Take a look at what other countries do and have implemented for the control of guns. They just don't have some ass backwards thinking that we should fully enforce regulations built in 1790s. They adapt and react to the world as it changes.

And yeah let's just arm everyone. I'm sure that'll result in less crime. It couldn't possibly result in more gun deaths when hotheads now all have guns so the littlest thing sets them off. I'm sure cooler heads would prevail and we wouldn't get shootings out of rage.

Have you not read anything about the road rage in Philadelphia where a guy gunned down a girl for cutting him off or not letting him merge? Yeah we need everyone to be toting a firearm.

that is the standard rhetoric though. "WELL CRIMINALS DONT FOLLOW RULES ANYWAY"

ok so lets just not have any rules or regulations at all since criminals won't follow them anyway.

what the actual fuck is wrong with people?:facepalm::facepalm:

Well Einstein, I think he already broke the law, do you think he would OBEY a new law?

He broke the law after he legally purchased those weapons as a US citizen. His right to legally purchase those weapons created the opportunity to kill 59 people and injure 500.
