How good is the sec?

I hear many people talking how down the sec is this year(not in this forum, in general) but they will probably be getting the 3rd most bids with 6. I have no doubt that the big east is the premier conference this year with the big ten right behind. But why is the sec so bad? Is it because Kentucky is not the usual Kentucky?

I agree Florida is overrated, but Tennessee four losses are to ok state, bama, arkansas, and memphis none to really be ashamed of. Kentucky I just dont understand

Tennessee is a fairly good team and LSU isn't bad either. Florida is a little overrated, but they are a young team. Kentucky has been a disappointing team all season. They lost by 26 to Indiana and 27 to Kansas... OUCH!

Bryanz i agree, Memphis is def either overrated or there just arent enough good teams in the league. Up until id say 2000 there was great parity amongst the top 25 teams. I just dont see that anymore in college as a whole. Prob due to the NBA flashing there million dollar signing bonuses sucking them in to leaving early. The only time I see parity is same conference play. Just take any of the top 25 teams and match them up against Duke, Nova, or Uconn and they dont make a pimple on their ass. Plus Conference USA is weak as a whole. There is just 3 AVERAGE teams in there other than Memphis (UAB, UTEP, and Houston).

Assuming this thread doesn't get contaminated with the partisan bickering that plagues conference-related threads in the CFB forum, it could prove very valuable. With the NCAA tourney looming, strength of conference is a huge factor. I'll admit that the SEC intrigues me. I'm curious how those big guns will do when laying 12-18 points against some relatively unknown small-school conference champ in the first round.

nova as being 1 of the dominate 3? Not after today. Maybe Duke and Uconn are on another league all thier own but i dont see how you can let nova in and keep memphis out or keep out GW for that matter

Alot of conferences are down this year. Big 12, ACC, Pac 10 and the SEC are all down this year. All I know is the Pac 10 sucks, they'll be lucky to get 3 teams in this year. UCLA, Washington, and California. I will be surprised if Arizona makes it in, wanna talk about inconsistent? Florida is a bit overrated but they are very young. How can you say Tennessee is inconsistent? 4 of their 5 losses came on the road to good opponents. The only loss I question was to Okie State who is not that good. Their other losses to Memphis, LSU, and Alabama will all be in the tournament this year. Kentucky has one down year and their garbage, give me a break. Big East is the most dominant of all conferences. I expect Villanova or Connecticut to win the tourney. Sorry Duke, you will not win it all this year. Dick Vitale will have to find someone elses dick to suck besides JJ Reddicks. I think the Big East sends at least 7 possibly 8 teams this year. Oops almost forgot. My surprise conference this year is the Missouri Valley Conference. I expect some of these teams to pull some upsets in the early rounds of the tournament.

The SEC is very average. Five teams currently hold a top 50 RPI ranking (Tennessee, LSU, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky). Only Tennessee, LSU, and Florida are guaranteed to make the tournament. There is no way the conference will get 6 bids! In my opinion, Tennessee is the best team in the SEC. The Vols could be an Elite 8 or Final Four team if they play up to their capabilities. The Gators are damn good, but their youth concerns me a little bit.

SEC will get 6

LSU, TENN, ARK, BAMA, FLA and yes, KENT will make the tourney

Not so sure any of them will make a whole lot of noise, will depend a lot on matchups - the way ARK is playing right now they could be dangerous, and depending on UK's draw they have the ability to get hot - Steele is a very good PG and those 2 youngsters inside are big, if Davis was still around they would be looking very good, still might make a nice run

All in all I think the conference will probably have 2 or 3 sweet 16 teams with maybe one advancing to Final Eight

Agreed LA burns alabama is one of the most dangerous teams come tournament time because of Davidson and Hendrix inside and Felix can shut down almost any defender and Steele is something special to have. I hate Davis went down but Steele has averaged almost 10 more points a game since and they are a lot more team orientated. Arkansas can be very dangerous with Ronnie Brewer and Hill is no scorer down low but his defensive presence is big for them. LSU could make noise as they are very physical and Davis for them is a load for any defender as he can dribble drive un like most big men. Tennessee will be dangerous if they get hot from outside as Lofton is one of the most under appreciated shooters in the country. I see 3 sweet 16 teams for the sec.

alabama and kentucky are both horrible teams that, unfortunately, will probably make it from the sec. while bama deserves credit for not packing it in after davis went down, they're still a mediocre basketball team. and when tourney time rolls around they'll be true to form and lose to a midmajor that is better than they are (kent state, uw-milwaukee)

lsu is the team that could really make some noise from this conference. tennessee is two years ahead of schedule. once pearl gets his guys in there, they're going to be a legit contender every year. but not this year. florida is intriguing but inexperience is killing them. they are still very good though. arkansas can be the best team in the sec on a given night but they're wildly inconsistent.

To say they are horrible is a absurd thing to say. Kentucky is down but alabama has beat the top three teams in the sec. Yes they lost to kent st who went a good ways in the tourney that year. The full court press confused bama last year and they went to the sweet 16. So both mid majors they lost to in the last 5 years was legit teams not a push over. Alabama had all it wanted from Southern Ill when it made its elight eight run.

I totally agree with everything else you said with lsu florida tennessee and arkansas.

Good luck to ya

I don't think that there are too many "horrible" teams around the nation that could go into Thompson-Boling Arena and come out with a "W"

And to call Bama "horrible" is ludicrous as well. Not saying that either of these teams will def. advance in the tourney but there must be some really great teams that I haven't seen yet this year if either of these teams is "horrible"
