Here
I've driven high a thousand times. There is no doubt that driving "on weed" is safer than driving on booze, but
no way should one be allowed by law to drive stoned, as it will clearly affect your reaction time, etc.

.............

Hmm, so no way to test/prove impairment for a pot smoker other than a piss/blood test that I'm familiar with already?

A guy is weaving down the road, he is pulled over, he blows 0000 on the breathalyzer, but the car smells like he has been hotboxing. He has the piss/blood test, it's positive for MJ, but he gets a lawyer to give reasonable doubt that he smoked it that night and it was just remnants in his system?

Sounds like a bunch of horse shit to me.

If I had any trace of tHC in my system and I had to piss test at work, it's automatic termination.

My thoughts are fuck any driver impaired on anything whether legal or not. I called the police a few months ago on this moron passed out in her driver's seat in the parking lot of the store. I had seen her earlier and recognized her Xanax/Lortab mask bc I know that look all too well. She was too impaired to drive.

Not sure why people can't be responsible? Baffles me. Why the hell do u need to ever drive impaired on anything?

I guess I don't see the difference in a dwi at this point no matter the offending agent (booze, pot, pills, other drugs); just seems like pot will be a nightmare to enforce should it become legal everywhere and more readily available. Ill always be against that legalization.

your saying texting while driviing is ok

Nope, that's moronic too; I just didn't want it lumped in here which is what the usual drinking apologists do. I'm just trying to get Info on the impairment causedby pot, how to test for it, and comparing it to booze.

There are already laws against reckless driving. You can get a ticket for that no matter what is proven in your system.

It's a thorny issue, but motor vehicles laws aren't the only aspect of this debate. And shit just because that aspect of legalizing marijuana might be hard, I don't think it is a enough to derail the entire movement. Dealing with millions of drunk/tipsy/pill popping/texting drivers is hard, but those activities aren't universally illegal 100% of the time.

And frankly so many people already smoke pot in this country whatever issues with driving while stoned have already been encountered a million times by cops and the legal system. I don't think it's going to be that much more of a 'nightmare' than it is already. And by the way, is it a nightmare currently?

As I see it:
Now: Caught smoking while driving - Arrest
When pot is legal: Caught smoking while driving - Arrest

Not a huge change.

Regarding drug tests for employment, well there are a million things that could rightfully get me fired, that I certainly hope wouldn't get me arrested.

By the time legalization gets around to your community a lot of the kinks will have been worked out by places that wanted to give it a shot. Maybe it never catches on in your state, because the population just isn't interested. Beauty of this country is there can be 50 sets of laws to suit constituents with a variety of needs and wants.

And I generally echo other comments that said that driving while stoned is way less risky than while drunk, but I also echo your comment above about not getting why people make such poor choices when driving. Just don't do either. Call a cab.

Depends on what you're smoking.

Indica-Probably shouldn't be driving and more than likely wouldn't drive anyway. Smoke a little, no big deal they'll be ok. Smoke a lot and I'm willing to bet they're not getting up off they're butt to drive anyway.

Sativa-Unless it's a lot then they're fine to drive. Anyone that says you lose ability to focus has no clue. If anything you can get dialed in while on it. Some people even get quite a bit of energy from it. I have friends that like to smoke a good Sativa before going on long runs. My wife use to like to smoke it before doing house cleaning. In college if I knew I was getting a Sativa I would smoke it before studying.

I don't get much smoke anymore but every once in a while we will. I always get a small bag of Indica and Sativa. I use the Indica to sleep because it really does knock me out. But Sativas are awesome if you're going out in public because they make you so aware of everything. I notice details that I normally don't notice.

It's called growing up, podnah. You should try:toast: I also drove on LSD and any number of other hallucinogens. I was living on the edge in my late teens and early 20s:facepalm:

I'm sure there are many here that did, I know I did in the same timeframe. In college, I broke a lot of laws but seldom got caught.

I am a child of the 60's when pot or hash was given out like candy, so I've smoked heavily from ages 18 to 42....I drove a taxi in NYC when I was in college & smoked 3,4,5 joints a day while doing so....Never had an accident or ticket....

I played sandlot football for years with the whole team stoned on either pot, hash, or speed....We didn't have great teams, but we didn't care....LOL....

Later on I was a very productive insurance salesman where I did a lot of driving & most times I was stoned by a few joints....Sometimes I worked with a partner who also smoked & we were known in our office as Cheech & Chong...LOL !! again no accidents or tickets....

As far as if pot impairs a person, I would think it would depend on the individual....

And btw I changed my stance on whether marijuana should be legalized, I now don't think it should be....
