How is Japan and America different?

I think income disparity is a pretty big factor as well. The middle class in Japan has survived longer than in a lot of other first-world countries. Also there just isn't a whole lot of poverty. If you look at places where looting usually occurs, it's in areas with a large poor community that feels detached from the community.

I mean if you are dirt poor and shit hits the fan you are not likely to care much about the rich merchants who own the stores in your area. A country like Haiti where basically 90% of people are dirt poor and 1% of people are rich, you have a situation where the large large majority of people just don't give a shit about society.

Is it right? Is this a justification for sub-human behavior? Nope. But it is the risk you run when you have a competitive economy where there are winners and losers. The losers tend not to be particularly happy with their status in life. This encourages bad behavior.

I wouldn't trade this system or our society for any other one out there, but it is wise to know it's weaknesses as well.

Hey Fek Thanks for post from your brother in other thread--enjoyed it.

Would like to shed some light on poor and pililaging.

-have seen areas in southeast asia and china inparticular where poverty was the norm--but you find no bar on windows--looting-murder rape- gangs etc

IMHO It's a matter of values or lack of--not finances that defines character--

Different culture. Different value placed on material "things".. Much less diversity. Just a larger chance people think and act the same. And again, this is as much of a drawback when it comes to creativity and an enjoyable life for some folks. I LIKE parts of the chaos in American culture. Just not during a natural disaster :nono:

If they'd just put the same amount of passion and energy into Schools instead of Hockey, then maybe more of them could get an education there instead of mooching off of Education subsidized by US taxpayers.

I hope they take a long, hard look at themselves
