How the D-Day Invasion would be reported by the media today.

June 6, 1944. -NORMANDY- Three hundred French civilians were killed and thousands more wounded today in the first hours of America's invasion of continental Europe. Casualties were heaviest among women and children.
Most of the French casualties were the result of artillery fire from American ships attempting to knock out German fortifications prior to the
landing of hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops. Reports from a makeshift hospital in the French town of St. Mere Eglise said the carnage was far worse the French had anticipated and reaction against the American invasion was
running high. "We are dying for no reason," said a Frenchman speaking on condition of anonymity. "Americans can't even shoot straight. I never thought I'd say this, but life was better under Adolph Hitler."

The invasion also caused severe environmental damage. American troops, tanks, trucks and machinery destroyed miles of pristine shoreline and thousands of acres of ecologically sensitive wetlands. It was believed that the habitat of the spineless French crab was completely wiped out, threatening the species with extinction.

A representative of Greenpeace said his organization, which had tried to stall the invasion for over a year, was appalled at the destruction,
but not surprised.

"This is just another example of how the military destroys the environment without a second thought, " said Christine Moanmore. "And it's all
about corporate greed."

Contacted at his Manhattan condo, a member of the French government-in-exile who abandoned Paris when Hitler invaded said the invasion was based solely on American financial interests.
"Everyone knows the President Roosevelt hasties to big beer," said Pierre LeWimp. "Once the German beer industry is conquered, Roosevelt's beer cronies will control the world market and make a fortune."

Administration supporters said America's aggressive actions were based in part on the assertions of controversial scientist Albert Einstein,
who sent a letter to Roosevelt speculating that the Germans were developing a secret weapon, a so-called "atomic bomb." Such a weapon could produce casualties on a scale never seen before and cause environmental damage that could
last for thousands of years.

Hitler has denied having such a weapon and international inspectors were unable to locate such weapons even after spending two long weekends in Germany. Shortly after the invasion began reports surfaced that German prisoners had been abused by Americans. Mistreatment of Jews by Germans at so-called "concentration camps" has been rumored but so far, remains unproven.

Several thousand Americans died during the first hours of the invasion and French officials are concerned that uncollected corpses pose a publichealth risk. "The Americans should have planned for this in advance," they said.
"It's their mess and we don't intend to clean it up."

I'm glad the soldiers who fought and died so bravely on D-Day and throughout World War II did so decades ago in the 1940s. War was hell, but at least our troops didn't have to fight the folks back home.

Actaully, selective memories aside, the media couldn't have been more onboard with the abortion in Iraq when we were toppling statues and having fun and shit. I wish they would have looked at this thing a little more critically before and shortly after it started. They were wayyyy too easy on the clowns in Washington and in particular the total idiots at the Pentagon when it came to the occupation.

The troops aren't fighting anybody 'back home'. If the whole country goosestepped along with the program in the 70's, instead of protesting it, we'd probably STILL be in Vietnam.

The inability of people to seperate opposition to the occupation to opposition to the troops is mind-blowing. Seems like the same people that lump 9/11 in with the occupation of Iraq. It's easy, makes for a good little soundbite or cute statement and it takes no thought, but it's totally inaccurate.

Right now Iam in the Untied States Marine Corps and I did six months in Iraq left my wife and family behind to fight for this country and I dont want anything back from the American people Its my job thats what i signed up to do. I do agree though alot of people dont support the troops. No matter what the cause of war is theres troops over there risking there lifes and people are over here b1tching about gas prices. They dont think about the 18 year old over there sitting in the sand behind a machine gun praying that someone that wants him dead doesnt fire a RPG at him. See the issue isnt if the troops should be over there or not, President Bush; agree with him or not you live in the United States he is the president voted into office by the people so if he decides to send every single person in the military into a country because he thinks it needs to be done people should support it because not supporting him is like not supporting all the troops putting there lives on the line.
That first post on this topic was right on the nose on how the media would report DDAY and its messed up. I think that all media covering wars and conflicts should be covered by the military not by cilivans. That would put things into perspective. And they shouldnt leave anything out show every single thing that happens over there.
Then there is the issue of are military catching hell for putting sandbags on POWs and stacking them all naked in a pile so what those sick bastards over there are capturing weaponless people and cutting there heads off but its worse what were doing. There is alot of bullcrap that goes on and its makes me wonder why people go over to other countries and put there lives on the line!!!!

"the bunker"
chan......excellent.....

digorno...thanks is woefully inadequate....but believe me,it`s from the heart...

civilization will be the death of us all....as it becomes more complex....as issues become more clouded by academia....and the media........as we become more hamstrung by the hand wringers......we will inevitably fold.....

vs enemies that could give a damn about all of the above....

hopefully it won`t happen in our lifetime.....

but it`s inevitable....

Except fox news. They would have had hard time even honoring and mentioning all those who were killed. Much how they shy away from even mentioning Iraq casualties. I still remember how fox news had a fit when ABC night line honored all those who had died in action in Iraq. It's like the Republicans think if not mentioned maybe no one will ask. Folks are getting wiser everyday to what fox is up to.

Folks are getting wiser everyday--thats why ratings continue to sore and their #1 ranking rises.

People are wiser cause they see New York Times and liberal media's agenda such as putting prison report on front page 42 straight days--just a tad more than Algezeera. They know their political agenda outweighs saftey of troops and adminstrations goal in fighting terrorism.
Nice to have news outlet that shows some of the good going on there.

Really depends on whether your a pessimist with an agenda or optimist with an agenda on which source you want to view. Would recommend personally viewing both--then seek the truth which for most part is somewhere in between.

See daily reprints of liberal media on Aljazeera and yet to see 1st reprint from Fox there.

Fox also blacked out in parts of Canada. Find that quite interesting since it is # rated news station in U.S.

If there number 1 must be cause they say so. Like there fair and balanced. Witch has been show-en as wrong. They are 80% right sided in there broadcast over last 4 years. Much closer to balance was CNN with 52% right sided to 48% left sided. Sounds if you are a right-e want to here the story slanted as you wish listen to fox. If you wish to here a more balanced and complete report go to CNN. Now if you wish to here left sided go to CBS. They are just 60/40% with the left slant. And of course if you want 100% so you can shake your head in agreement. And never ask tough questions listen to Rush. You get 100% right.

Djv, Trust me you dont hear about 70% of what goes on over there on any news channel. There is so much filtered out you wouldnt believe. There is so much i wish they would show the country that they keep behind closed doors. makes me sick to my stomach.
