Right behind you
Here ya go, more capitalism at work:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Genna Saucedo supervises cashiers at a Wal-Mart in Pico Rivera, California, but her wages aren't enough to feed herself and her 12-year-old son.

Saucedo, who earns $9.70 an hour for about 26 hours a week and lives with her mother, is one of the many Americans who survive because of government handouts in what has rapidly become a food stamp nation.

26 hours, $9.70 per hour, no insurance, no benefits of any kind.

Fuck her, we need another ten billion for the Waltons.

Greedy bastards are killing this country, and slimeball politicians, like that POS Scott Walker, and the teabaggers, are helping them.

And when those working people get sick who pays for it? They don't make enough to afford insurance. I guess it's the middle class once again that foots the bill. But this ain't socialism.

Disgusting.

That's truly sad, Duff... Someone in a supervisory position making $9.70 an hour.

Consider this: If the minimum wage had just kept pace with inflation since 1968, it would now be approx. $10 an hour. So this woman's effectively making less than someone who was making minimum wage in 1968. That's how far the middle-class has fallen in this country. And to think we've got right-wingers right here in this forum cheering on the corporatists as they methodically execute their agenda to crush the labor movement and destroy the voice of the middle-class in this country. In the end though, their hubris will be their downfall. They've overreached and the backlash that began in Wisconsin last February was only the beginning.

Exactly. Wal-Mart's the largest corporation in the world. Americans alone spend $36 Million an hour at Wal-Mart stores but Wal-Mart can't afford to pay living wages and provide basic benefits? No doubt some right-wingers will be along to tell us that's how they got to be the biggest corporation in the world. In their minds, the ends always justify the means, but we've seen this story before and it always ends the same... more wealth in the hands of the fortunate few at the expense of the middle-class.

I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart. I have never shopped in one.

However - for all the people who bash Wal-Mart for destroying America, do you use Amazon or other online retailers?

Those retailers take money out of the local economy as well.

For the supervisor at Wal-Mart, ask for a raise. If you don't get it, she has a couple of options.

Increase her skill set.
Ask for a raise again.
Find a new, better paying job

Yes...all of these people would be better off without WalMart where they CAN earn $9.70 an hour.

Maybe if she worked 32-40hrs per week she would be eligible for benefits...in 80% of all companies, that is the threshold.

I didn't see too many college degrees quoted in the article so where do you think these people would be working if not for WalMart? Plus I can tell you they would not be making $9.70 an hour elsewhere.

This person made decisions in her life that caused her to be exactly where she is today. She makes $9.70 because that is the value she offers to employers.

Stevie...when they get sick, taxpayers and people who have insurance pay for it.

TRENCH...you LOST in Wisconsin and then you FAILED to gain a majority through recall elections that were simply a waste of money...that is what you are optimistic about?

The wealthy are not fortunate...they earned it and luckily the nation is moving back to a standard of personal responsibility so Genna has the ability to work hard and earn more. The Future is Bright.

Upgrade her skill set? U see how much it cost to go to school nowadays? Not something easy to do if u are a woman with a child. She probably can't even afford to pay for the ridiculous cost of books. Not everyone has an easy road map or funds coming from a source where they can go on to school. Find a better job in this economy? Maybe Target is hiring. Ask for a raise at Walmart? Good luck with that.

.

That is exactly what I said. Walmart will not give her the hours to pay for her insurance so the rest of us have to. You are ok with this?

I didn't lose anything, Bob. The people of Wisconsin decided that two districts that happen to be Republican strongholds would be better served by Democratic Senators. Now the good people of Wisconsin are busy collecting 500,000 signatures to force a Gubernatorial Recall Election here in January. The Republicans have overreached and the backlash is coming, Bob. When ALL of Wisconsin has the opportunity to send our Governor-elect packing, perhaps you'll begin to see that.

Regarding the wealthy, your assertion that they "earned" it reveals a rather myopic view, wouldn't you say? Tell me how 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation silver-spooners like the Walton clan "earned" the winning lottery ticket they drew in life?

It's true that Sam Walton "earned" his wealth but the means in which he did it were ruthless and he created a work environment that's regressive in many ways. No doubt this is blasphemy to guys like you who worship the ground ol' Sam walked upon. Sorry to have to sully the reputation of your patron saint of capitalism, Bob. :0008

You really should have read the terms of employment before you took that job as a Wal-Mart greeter, Bob. ;)

You're right about one thing, Bob. The future IS bright in Wisconsin.

I hear David Koch's looking for a pool boy.
Lucky for him, I just happen to know a couple guys who'll be out of work soon... :142smilie

The Future is Bright because people like you know have to HOPE you get the statehouse back in Wisky after decades of that state being one of the most liberal in the country. You areadly lost the union battle and I'm glad that the state is in such good shape (under Republican leadership) that it can afford potentially three special recall elections.

These posted comments only illustrate the divide between the earners and the takers. My friend, the earners are winning and that tigtening in your crotch is the realization that the gravy train is over for people who make bad decisions, are lazy, are criminals, are here illegally and those who choose a lifestyle of taking. I don't mind at all supporting the 20% of the lower classes who don't fit in to these categories.

And here is a newsflash...life is not easy. If you have one parent, maybe grew up in the projects, had limited resources growing up...well then you have to work harder and there are plenty of examples of people who have overcome those hardships including me.

On the other hand, any day of the week the sponge can provide 100 excuses for why it can't be done and trench can express his outrage that we don't live in a Utopian society.

It will be a difficult path but, we are finally headed in the right direction with the right issues being discussed. Think it over, the debt discussion turned around 180 degrees after the last election. You all better hope that poster inane comments on the internet starts paying your bills.

This is a fucking embarrassing post.

It is useless debating some of these tools.

I love how he just ignored that. That is wal-mart's mo. I've never been in one and I never will. They can go to hell. What is shocking is that assbob is paying for wal-mart's health plan. I guess its okay for corporations but not for the poor. Keep on sucking that corporate dick assbob, just be careful I hear an insurance scumbag wanting some of that dick too.
