"American Idol" producers are eager to hire Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell as the show's tough-talking judge.

An insider said that producers of the hit Fox show say Stern, America's highest-paid radio personality, is their top choice to take over from Cowell, who leaves at the end of this season. They approached the King of All Media after he repeatedly mentioned on-air that his exclusive Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January and he was open to other offers. Cowell was paid $50 million a year.:scared

A source connected to "Idol" said, "It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon.

This had been rumored, and I know Stern has talked about how he thinks he'd be a great replacement and judge on that show (no surprise there). It would be one job that could make him a ton of money and allow him to be himself, within reason. I'm just not sure he would be popular with the younger generation, the one that Idol relies on for the cash, and that could be an issue. He'd certainly be confrontational, but he would be clumsy and not the personality that Cowell is in that position. Cowell still maintains some decorum, and definitely has the knowledge of the music business, which Stern does not.

But, it would definitely be an interesting hire - I doubt either party would look at it as a long term thing, and I still think Stern would like to stay in radio, at some point.

Simon is American Idol, Stern is a dirty old overpaid bastard, I listened to his show one time on sirius, it sucks...much prefer playboy radio;)

I do talk alot but I always have an opinion, it may not be yours, but at least I have one, unlike some here. I at least have the balls to post my opinions, isn't this the reason for this website? :shrug:
