Its been a hell of a week as I went to Chico to Volunteer for wherever they needed me...... I have several friends that lost everything in the Paradise Fire..... Smoke is really bad..... Your heart breaks seeing the chaos and destruction that this fire caused.... While the number deceased is at 46.. Expect that number to go way up as there are so many people unaccounted for..... Paradise is really a retirement community and many elderly simply couldn't get out fast enough..... Prayers needed all around.

I'm usually loathe to wager on MAC and Sun Belt games but these picks came up pretty strong on a old system I've used with a modicum of success.

Appreciate it...... I have alot of friends that were lucky to get out... While they are all thankful that they escaped with their lives, so many memories gone up in smoke (excuse the play on word)... There is a video on YouTube posted by a guy named Greg Woodcox that is pretty graphic but reality...unfortunately.... Part of the problem was that Paradise only has one major thoroughfare going in and out.... People literally got out of their vehicles and ran because the traffic was jammed and smoke so bad they couldn't see the road.... Many people couldn't get their pets out also....... Whole scene was/is apocalyptic.

Its so bad

Its so bad

So much destruction... WE have so many friends out there and it is just absolute destruction... So awful. Prayers to you and everyone out there....

Wisconsin and Iowa state title games:
Avoca game looks real tight to me. I lean to the dog here but its a toss up. Lean under but passing.
Xavier beat Dubuque earlier this year 35-0. X is so good defensively. I think Dubuque will score but not much. I think we see a 31-14 type game. I like the under

Wisconsin
Really like Iola Scandinavia here. Too much experience.
Edgar vs Blackhawk like the Under here. I think Edgar wins but prefer the under.
Stratford +18.5- THis is a huge number for a game that is closer. Just think its a tighter game. St Mary's Spring are the favorites for reason but Stratford had a back that is finally healthy who is a moose. Think it will be tight.

have a good night

take care man

I just noticed Musca and Hawk have checked in with their thoughts on Thurs/Fri HSF Championship games.....I haven't looked at their actual picks yet because I will first post mine then see if I need to reevaluate...

Wiscy. Div 7 Champ. 8 am

Blackhawk 42'
Edgar -13

Was I seeing things? Could have sworn the side opened at Edgar -3? I dunno cause I've had more important things on my mind but if it did, Congrats to whoever pushed the number up and it might still not be enough...

Let's start with perennial power Edgar Wildcats who are 13-0 and have been pushing people around all season.. The Marawood Conf Champs are coached by a Wisconsin High School Legend and Hall of Fame Coach, Jerry Sinz, who is in his 44th year and his 12th trip to the State Title Game... A win would make him the first Coach to capture 8 WIAA State Championships.... Wildcats last won the whole enchilada in 2016.. He has had 43 winning seasons ....Sinz is known for producing hard hitting Defenses that include last year's 11-1 team that pitched 10 shut-outs..... This season more of the same with 8 shut-outs and only allowing 6 TDs and a FG for 43 points.... Meanwhile the offense has been trucking right along with a combined 525 points (averaging 40.4 ppg).

This year's Wildcats returned almost every skill position with the only question mark being the OL which Sinz believes is hitting its stride... Sr QB Karson Butt (5'11" 185 lbs) has passed for 1,188 yards w/11 TDs (63% comp rate) and has rushed for 381 yards w/10 TDs.... Butt is also a All-State DB leading the team in tackles and also as a successful Punt returnman that had a 51 punt return for a TD......... Sr RB Will Raatz (6'0" 200 lbs) leads a diverse rushing attack with 4 different RBs having over 350 yards....Raatz has 753 yards on on 108 carries w/22 TDs *Last week he rushed for 99 yards w/3 TDs.....As already mentioned, the Defense is a wall allowing only 17 points in the regular season until a 26-20 win over State Finalist in D5 Stratford.

Lining up across from Edgar is undefeated Blackhawk Warriors (12-0)....The 6 Rivers Conf Champs has a pretty good Defense too only allowing 115 combined points (9.6 ppg) outscoring opponents 42.8 to 11 per game.... 8 starters returned on D which has only given up 63 rush yards per game.... The last time Blackhawk won State was 2013 and it has reached the title game 4 times.... Sr RB Colby Argall has 1,938 yards w/27 TDs on 215 attempts/He has rushed for 1,000+ yards for 3 consecutive years *Last week he rushed for 165 yards w/2 TDs.... Sr QB Kyle Lovelace has passed for 611 yards w/9 TDs *Last week he rushed for 116 yards w/1 TD, so he is a danger to pull the ball down and take off..... The OL has a couple of D1 recruits in Jr OL Avery Baumgartner (6'0" 265 lbs) and Gunner Fueching (6'3" 235 lbs)... The offense averages 36.8 ppg while only allowing 9.6 ppg.

Warriors found some vindication from losing in the Title game last year to Bangor by beating them last week 24-6...The program has only 25 boys on roster (which represents more than a 1/4 of the schools pop.)(total enrollment being 99 students........... Edgar isn't much different with 176 student enrollment with 57 players on the roster...Tradition of winning is big at Edgar....

This is the first meeting between the two teams... After beating Stratford (in D5 Finals) the Wildcats have been on a tear outscoring 4 playoff opponents 152-6.....Last week's win 41-0 was the teams 8th shut-out.... Warriors are hoping to upend Tournament power Edgar but I'm having a hard time seeing that happen.

Iola-Scandinavia - 3'
Racine Lutheran 60

I-S Thunderbird are 13-0 and are on their 2nd consecutive trip to the Finals, and are on 4th overall under HC Scott Erickson who is in his 26th season..... Up until last week's squeaker (27-25 w over Grantsburg) The T-Birds have had a relatively easy time of it outscoring opponents 538-136....The team only graduated 5 players from last years 11-3 squad....All eyes will be on Sr RB Bryce Huettner (5'10" 215 lbs) who last week became the Leading Rusher in Wisconsin State History with a combined 6,714 rush yards... This season, he has a jaw dropping 2,436 yards w/39 TDs (87 career TDs) .. He also plays Ironman and leads the team in tackles... Huettner remembers last years State Runner-Up finish while he had 213 rush yards, it wasn't enough *He has already won the Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch Award for the States most outstanding RB.... QB Connor Kurki has 940 yards passing w/10 TDs...

Racine Lutheran Crusaders are 11-2 and in their first Title game appearance... QB Colton Kraus (5'9" 170 lbs) has passed for 700 yards w/10 TDs and has rushed for 208 yards w/2 TDs *Also leads team in tackles with 156.....Jr RB Tyler Tenner (5'9" 200 lbs) shouldn't be overlooked as he has rushed for 300+ yards in each of the last 2 play-off games... He has rushed for 2,149 yards w/26 TDs and 31 TDs overall... Crusaders have averaged over 41 points in each play-off game behind the exploits of Tenner who runs over people with great balance...

Crusader HC Scott Smith is in his 20th season (133-77)..Crusaders have been through the tougher bracket, beating SWAC Conf Champs Cambridge 41-21 and Capital South Conf Champ Mineral Point 49-14....Crusaders 2 losses on the season were to Martin Luther 40-8 and St Catherine 40-28.....Despite outscoring opponents 485-230, the Defense is going to have to come up big to slow down B Huettner....... Still, this game features 2 of the most prolific Running Backs in Wisconsin.... Both teams kinda mirror each other but T-Birds Defense should be the difference here.

IA Class A Championship 11:30 am

AHSTW 56
Hudson -2'

Im not going to be spending much time on the write ups for Iowa Title Games, but if you need to just look into last week's thread to get game notes and mock up.

AHSTW beat Edgewood Colesburg last week in the easiest game on the board as I hope alerted some of you that E-C stud do-everything RB/DB/Special Teams terror had to sit out with injury... It was too much of a loss for E-C to make adjustments and AHSTW made them pay, however, I'm not high on the Vikings this week.

AHSTW Vikings are lead by QB Blake Osbahr who has passed for 2,203 yards w/30 TDs (5 INT)....... RB Gabe Pauley has 1,710 rush yards w/27 TDs (7.6 ypc) (as I mentioned last week, the kid is a stud on the Wrestling mat being undefeated in Class A..... Vikings have the 2nd best scoring offense with the 2nd best scoring D in Class A..... The last time Avoca was in the State Title game was 1991 (none of the players had been born yet) and was first time the consolidated program was in effect...

Hudson was the State Runner-Up last year and the Offense is clicking averaging 41 ppg in last 4 while allowing 12.5....RB Christian Seres has rushed for 1,914 rush yards w/30 TDs *3rd in Class A... Sr QB Jacob Murphy passed for 228 yards w/2 TDs last week... The Pirated are in the finals for the 6th time (having won in 1975 & 1994)....Pirates are battle tested having lost to West Sioux in last year's championship....

Teams are very similar offensively and both offenses can/will put points up on the board... Both will line up in a 4 Wide Out Set and with each team having a stand out RB Defenses can't necessary key on those playmakers...Both schools have excellent WRs to move the chains...... This one will more than likely come down to which QB executes best and which Defense can make a stop.... Hudsons D gets my nod as the opportunistic ball hawking D has 11 picks on the year and in last week's win they caused 4 fumbles and recovered all 4...

Think last year's loss probably stings a little more and the fact that the UNI Dome is only 8 miles from Hudson campus and will rely on a huge traveling crowd, who have shut the town down for this game....

A couple more

A couple more

Hit the main with Iola... Pretty good day working.

I like the dogs in Wisconsin. Already Bet Stratford and since I have parlays ending on them I may hedge a bit. Not sure yet.
Late game in Wisconsin- Racine St. Catherines +11.5 and +315- The QB for SC is arguably one of the most dynamic players in the state. St. Croix runs a triple option. Both teams have scored a bunch and this game COULD be an absolute shootout. I see the game as close to even because of how good the Racine QB is. St. Croix's defense is great, their triple option is efficient yadda yadda.... Just think the x factor is Brown for Racine.

I have a market tonight. I have to keep selling those dog treats. www.Labarkeria.dog

Well my day was shot from the get-go.... Had hoped to handicap BB (especially early games) and FB but ran into problems.... Oh well, always tomorrow.

Tonights Iowa Championship 3A

W Dubuque 47
Xavier -15'

Xavier already beat the Bobcats once in regular season 35-0......Pretty hard to argue a WD win against the suffocating D of Saints... Xavier won the whole thing last year and appear to be poised to do it again... During regular season Saints has only allowed a measly 3.6 ppg... Last week against offensive juggernaut Lewis Central and All-State QB Max Duggan (rated as possibly the best QB in Iowa) Saints slammed the door 37-13...

West Dubuque at 10-2 seem to be hitting their stride at the right time, and I always lean to the Underdog in rubber matches but Xaviers Defense is so strong and West Dubuque reminds me a little of Lewis Central so I can't buck Saints.

Line opened at -13 and is now -15'.....simply think the line movement helps the play....

Yeah I agree..... I already bet the UNDER on this game at 56.......you talked me into a couple of units on Racine..... I watched some film on Brown and the kids a stud.... They run the ball alot too with Brown finding holes and taking off...... Triple Option is tough to Coach against but hopefully Racine can figure it out... Wow what a finish in that Racine game. Great call on the under. Capped a pretty profitable day capped by the moneyline dog Racine coming in 8-7. Tomorrow I see pretty much the same stuff. Wisconsin West de Pere +10.5 and moneyline. Homestead under lean to the fave here not sure I will play the side then Kimbereley. so hard to go against a team like the Papermakers. Muskego is a good team but... We will see.

In Iowa
Dike OVER
I already played PCM + the points and think they will win SU.
I also played Cedar Falls +3. Dowling came barreling back to for OT then finally won in 4 OT vs Bettendorf last week. My feeling tells me that the Home team Cedar Falls is just going to have enough to get this done. Going to be a hell of a day. Lets get them.

I know this writeup is disjointed. Sorry... Just stream of consciousness stuff.

12 pm Iowa Div 2A Champ

Rock Valley/Boyden Hull -6
PCM 52

I'm listing this game first for a couple of reasons... BH/RV Nighthawks have one loss on the season to Sergeant B-L in Week 4 (S-BL was in the semifinals last week falling to W Dubuque)... Nighthawks won State in 2016 and this is their 2nd Class 2A Championship game in 3 years..... Team hasn't had a game closer than 28 points, with the lone loss as a exception... The program avenged a loss last year to Waukon 36-19 in the Semis by giving Waukon its walking papers 48-12....The Defense has been outstanding only allowing 11.4 ppg...... The loss in week 4 may have had something to do with the Starting QB JT Van't Hul leaving the game in the 2nd quarter with a low ankle sprain... The QB leads the team in rushing with 894 rush yards w/15 TDs and has passed for 1,956 yards w/21 TDs.

PCM Monroe Mustangs are no slouch, with the Defense only allowing 8.4 ppg.... They have pitched 5 shut-outs (2 in the playoffs) and won last week 27-0 over a very good West Liberty team... QB Reed Worth has 2,126 yards through the air w/27 TDs...... Mustangs have 3 WRs with at least 6 TDs...... Mustangs have blown the doors off of every opponent with the closest game won by 21 in Week 1 of the playoffs....

**Musca has PCM winning this game outright and I concur...... To add to the pot, Starting QB JT Van'T Hul reinjured his low ankle sprain last week in the 2 ND quarter.... I'm 90% certain the line doesn't reflect this and the word is he will try to play but will be severely hampered...... Everybody knows low ankle sprains will certainly take the hitch out of your giddyup and I'm really liking PCM + the points in this one.

Waukesha Catholic Memorial -12
West Du Pere 45

Catholic Memorial Crusaders are 12-1 and trying to win the 3rd State Title on 6 trips to Camp Randall... HC Bill Young is in his 41st season and has 15 State Title Appearances winning 6..... Crusaders are the #4 team in the State of Wisconsin.... The only loss was to a very good Muskegon Team *Classic 8 Champ and Div 1 Finalist..... Jr QB Luke Fox (6'1" 180 lbs) was moved to QB from his WR position and has gone on to complete 59.3% of his passes (2,081 yards w/27 TDs) and only 2 INTs.*Fox has several Div 1 offers in Baseball..... 2 Headed Monster of RBs Tate Kopulos (5'9" 185) leads team in rushing with 863 yards w/16 TDs and has caught 40 passes for 665 yards w/9 TDs...... The Defense is stout and Soph DL JC Latham (6'7" 270 lbs) is drawing Big 10 Scholarship Offers.... Crusaders outscore opponents 35.2 ppg to 13.9.

West du Pere Phantoms are a perfect 13-0.....They are returning to the State Championship for first time since 2011 in which they won consecutive Titles.... 3 appearances from 2009-2011...wining last 2.... QB Josh Blount has 1,579 yards on 214 carries w/23 TDs and has passed for 860 yards w/10 TDs (2 INTs).... Phantom Defense allows 7.3 ppg... The Defense is big and athletic and has a few D1 recruits, leading the D is Sr DE Jake Karchinski (6'5" 245 lbs) is All-State and heading to Iowa .. Offense averages 41.5 ppg.....

Phantoms have cruised through 4 playoff victorys averaging 35 points.... However, it's hard to buck the Crusaders who play in arguably the strongest conference called the Classic 8....Crusaders drop down to Div 3 after running a gauntlet...... While I think Memorial probably wins this, I'm not comfortable laying the 12 points.... Despite two fantastic Defenses going at it, I'm riding the Over in this one.

Brookfiel Central -7'
Homestead 57'

Brookfield Lancer are 13-1 and trying to win this year's Title after settling for runner-up last year.... The loss to Waunakee 14-13 left a bad taste in HC Jed Kennedy (5th year) The fact they haven't ever won a Title, getting back and defeating Waunakee 20-13 helps but still have their eyes on the prize.... Sr QB Drew Lesczynski (6'1" 190 lbs) orchestrates a Single Wing and he's passed for 1,644 yards w/17 TDs (4 INT) and rushed for 639 yards w/5 TDs.... Sr RB Rashad Lampkin (5'10" 190 lbs) has rushed for 2,120 yards w/30 TDs.... Lampkin and Lesczynski are both All-State selections... Sr WR Julian Banda (6'1" 190 lbs) has 50 receptions for 760 yards w/6 TDs.

Homestead Highlanders are 13-0 and last won State in 2015.... They have advanced to State 7 times and have captured 5...... QB Emory Weeden (6'0" 180 lbs) has 1,142 yards w/16 TDs through the air and has a 64% completion rate and has rushed for 523 yards w/11 TDs... RB Willie Garrison (6'0" 180) has rushed for 1,134 yards w/13 TDs.... RB Jared Schneider (6'1" 175) has 873 yards w/16 TDs.... Highlanders win with Defense and only allows 191 yards ppg and 12.6 ppg..... Last week's win over Marshfield 12-7 was played in a major snow storm....

I like Brookfield to get the job done here with a heavy dose of All-State RB Lampkin.... The Lancer loss to Waunakee in last years State Final will be the motivation to get the ring.

Dike New Hartford 66

Dike-NH Wolverines average 45.6 ppg but only allow 6.4 ppg.... Wolverines seek the schools first State Titke and was runner-up in 2010....They are the highest scoring 1A Offense... The balanced offense is run by QB Drew Sonnenburg who completed 66% of his passes for 1,359 yards w/16 TDs... RB Cade Burnett has rushed for 1,698 yards w/22 TDs (in last weeks game he had 3 rushing TDs).....

West Sioux Falcons have one loss to Rock Valley/Boyden Hull (playing for the 2A Title) losing 42-16....Falcons won State last year playing in Class A but moved up a class this year... They have rolled over everybody including last week's win 38-35 over Van Meter (Defending 1A Champs)... QB Hunter Dekkers leads Class A with 3,078 pass yards w/42 TDs (2nd in the State)(Last week he accounted for 2 rush TDs and 2 Pass TDs)....

Both teams are capable of going off here and while the number has climbed 2 points, I think there is still value with the Over... W Sioux won Class A last year behind the highest scoring 11 man offense in Iowa History.... The 34 points that DN-H scored against Pella Christian (34 points) was the fewest they had scored since Week 1...The question is can Falcons maintain pace of scoring against one of the best defense in 1A? W Sioux Defense is suspect at times......

Muskego -3

Not much to say about this one... Let me get this straight, Kimberly Papermakers (god I love that mascot) are 12-1 and are the 5 time defending State Champs, having won 5 consecutive titles (last 4 in Div 1)..Papermakers lost their opener to the #1 ranked team Fond du Lac and had their 70 game win streak snapped losing 31-28 but was able to return the favor by bouncing Cardinals last week in OT 22-21......QB Cody Staerkel (6'1" 180) is considered the best signal caller in the state with 2,748 pass yards w/28 TDs on 65.8% completion rate (3 INT)..... Jr RB Will Fischer (5'11" 185)has rushed for 1,064 yards w/8 TDs..... WR Connor Wnek (6'3" 170 lbs) has caught 52 passes for 923 yards w/13 TDs....

Muskego Warriors are 13-0 and this is their 2nd finals trip.... Offense averages 40.5 ppg and has produced 4,446 yards w/57 TDs running the old throwback Wing-T offense... RB John Reisk (5'10" 200)has totaled 1,299 yards w/12 TDs... Soph RB Alex Current (5'11" 175 lbs) has accumulated 1,415 yards w/21 TDs..... Called to run the mis-direction offense is QB AJ Makinen (6'0" 175 lbs) is a 3 year starter and completes 64.2 % of his passes for 641 yards w/12 TDs...

Muskego is favored here and their Defense is stalwart only allowing 13.3 ppg... Kimberly HC Steve Jones had to replace 18 of 22 full time starters but has his squad playing with a lot of confidence... They will have to slow down the Wing-T but I love the fact that Papermakers know Camp Randall well and I think win outright.
