Another thing

Another thing

I am reading that Kennedale is going to play man coverage on the perimeter.

Don?t be surprised if: Kennedale goes man-to-man against Carthage?s offense for most of the game. The Wildcats? defense is often overlooked because of the exceptional play of the offense and the 2017 graduation of linebacker Baron Browning, who is now at Ohio State. But Kennedale?s defense is certainly state-championship quality. It has speed at almost every position defensively, and will rely on that athleticism to defend an extremely skilled and complex Carthage offense.

With man-to-man coverage comes one-on-one matchups for Carthage receivers Dewaylon Ingram, Dee Bowens, and Mekhi Colbert. And as most of the Bulldogs? 2017 opponents can attest, that is a risky game plan. Bowens has 22 touchdown receptions, and leads the team with 1,270 yards, averaging a team-best 22.3 yards per catch. Ingram is the possession receiver, who excels in the red zone because of his size and ball skills. He comes into Friday?s game with 56 catches for 1,021 yards and 14 touchdowns. Colbert is a jack of all trades, sometimes even lining up at quarterback in goal-line situations.

If Kennedale goes with man coverage, it will be up to Carthage junior quarterback Gunner Capps to find the open receiver.

The very talented WR corps will gobble up man coverage and spit out touchdowns.

The only thing that could scare me is if the Carthage front 4 cannot control the line and allow the insanely good linebackers to roam and impact the game. If the Kennedale lineman are able to continually get to the second level then we could be in trouble... but my mouth is salivating at the thought of Kennedale playing straight up man in the secondary. Carthage will TORCH them

54-41 final

Whats your read on Pleasant Grove vs West Orange Stark?

Whats your read on Pleasant Grove vs West Orange Stark?

The first game of the state tournament in Texas the line moved in my favor like West Orange has and I got smoked... I had Refugio +3.. I moved the line to -1.5 and it went off Refugio +6. Refugio jumped out to a 14-0 lead but Mart came storming back and won 34-21.
So this line movement makes me go hmmmm

I like the West Orange team as they are a gritty smashmouth ruthless team but they are replacing 18 starters from last years State champ team. Pleasant Grove is a good team. There is no doubt but the West Orange defense is a team defense that is not just talking about it they are being about it.

West Orange-Stark Mustangs (13-0) +6 Pleasant Grove Hawks (15-0)

Played 3 units on OVER 40 WIN

3 UNITS on WOS +6 LOSS

Sorry Musca, running late...

Got the split on the Carthage /Kennedale game...

WOS looking to continue a very impressive 40 game win streak, which is always added pressure; especially when you are replacing 19 Starters from last year's Championship Title (as Musca alluded to)... Nothing particularly shiny about this team, just a workmanlike approach to their weekly opponents.... Off averaging 36.1 ppg..... This is Stangs 4th straight State Finals, so the spotlight won't be nothing new.... They won last week 30-21 over a very good Wimberley squad that saw Star QB Chaka Watson break a 99 yard TD in the 2nd quarter... He rushed for 238 yards w/2 Tds... He will no doubt be the prominent athlete on the WOS Title hopes.

Pleasant Grove playing in first ever Championship game... They won last week upending previously unbeaten Graham 45-14....Their workhorse RB TJ Cole has amassed 1,531 yards on 205 carries w/22 Tds.... LB Xavier Benson is a beast on D (heading to Texas Tech, which says a lot for one of the best Defenses in the state.

Pleasant Grove is Kennedale 2.0 as they run (you guessed it) Wing-T hybrid with Slot T... As Kennedale, they try to catch you napping with misdirection.... My understanding is that they love to run Power Sweep (up to 80% of the time.... Of course we all know how a Wing T did against a State Power in the last game...

Too much pride and history on WOS side to count them out... I love the 6 points I'm getting and although I'm banging heads with Musca, I played the Over, as 40 points in a high school game seems ludicrous... With that said, expect a 10-7 type of game.

I waited on the line because was curious which way it would go.... When I saw the +6 I pounced.... Surprised the total barely budged... I played the Over, as I went back to their schedules and thought it may have a chance of going over... By same token, 2 of the best Defenses in the State could mean a really low scoring affair..... Who knows.... Just having fun learning so much history and fanfare in TX HSF nostalgia.... Pretty cool stuff out there and these fans are rabid on the posting boards around the net...

Highland Park Scots +7' Manvel Mavericks (71)

-I'm following Musca on these 2 picks...

3 units Manvel/Highland Park Over 71 WIN

3 units on Highland Park +7' WIN

*I like where Musca is going here. Highland is going for their 2nd straight Title.... Also, the Scots have won 11 straight playoff games... Off averages 45.3 ppg and I think they will have to keep their average if they are going to win this won because Manvel is very dangerous...

For 2 years straight Scots came in as heavy underdogs last week against Denton Ryan, and for the 2nd straight year, HP sent the fav packing as the offense went 11 of 14 on converted 3rd downs and QB John Stephen Jones went off passing for 358 yard w/5 Tds... HP rolled up 533 yards of total offense... QB John S Jones, yes the Grandson of Jerry, has an outstanding 71% completion rate... He has 4,347 yards w/57 TD (4 INTS) ...**An interesting note is he is 6-0 at AT&T Park...

Manvel is the real deal and proudly boasts that it has 16 players committed to College Ball. HC Kirk Martins son plays QB (Kason Martin) has bounced back from a mid-season injury to throw for 2,564 yards w/34 Tds through 13 games.... His main target is WR Jalen Preston (a 4 star recruit) and one of the top players in the country (his elite speed and strength makes him a danger to take it to the house every time he touches the ball)(going to Texas A&M)...
. With so many top tier athletes, the question is who do you hone in on... Curiously, the plays get called fairly evenly which is why no WR or RB has cleared the 1,000 yard mark....

Has the potential to be a shoot out so I played the Over... And took HP to keep it close
.

One of the best high school football games I have ever seen.... The Centennial/IMG game was my favorite (last year's) but this took the cake... I was leery of the Jones kid because I figured he was getting so much press because of Dad and Grandfather but the kid can play.. His recruiting stock just went way up..

Oh yeah, doesn't hurt to pick up 6 units either. :00hour

What an ending to the Highland Park Game... Picked up 6 more units to keep my prophecy alive that I would finish strong in HSF...

Aledo Bearcats -13' College Station Cougars (68)

Aledo (15-0) looks nearly unstoppable as the Bearcats look to repeat as State Champs, which would include a Texas UIL 11-Man State Record with its 8th Title... Bearcats have 6 Crowns since 2009 which makes the current run very relevant..... They are also in the midst of a 31 game win streak.... This current tromp through the playoffs hasn't been all roses though... Last week, in a cold, rainy afternoon, Aledo had to come from behind to upend Mansfield Legacy when their stud Soph RB Jase McClellan broke a 46 yard sprint to the end zone that held up a 28-21 win *Aledo had dispatched Mansfield in regular season, but as is often the case, winning twice to quality competition is tough to do.....

Bearcats are averaging 45.7 points per game while allowing 12.93.....As a team, the total yardage per game is 441.5 ypg.... They rush for 292.8 yards (McClellan owns 162 yards of that.... QB J Bishop passes for a modest 145.7 yards pg.... He will pull it down and take it off..... Still, the game plan seems to include a heavy dose of McClellan (missed a lot of the regular season with a wrist injury) He has rushed for at least 178 yards in 7 of 8 games... On the year, he has 1,458 yards w/24 Tds... Last week he rushed for 207 yards w/3 TDs.. He was the Player of the Game in last years Title win.(full ride to Oklahoma) ... On Defense, the DL is anchored by a sort of celebrity who's called "Big Game James", the 5'9" 300 lb phenom wreaks havoc at DT and changes the games interior by his presence and play... James Williams has started for the Bearcats in 63 consecutive games as he has started all 4 years (starting Varsity at 14)... This year he has accounted for 100 tackles (58 solo).... He's smart, studys OL tendencies and has "sports savvy" (may go to Montana St) . Also, on D is FS Wyatt Harris, another starter since he was a Frosh (SMU bound)...

College Station is new to all this as it's first appearance in the Championship game... Offense averages 44.5 ppg, however, the Offense has kicked it into 2nd gear and is averaging more than 50 points per game in the playoffs.... The Cougars did make the Semis last year, and decided what the heck, might as well make it one more.... They have upset previously unbeaten Austin McCallum 49-21 which punched their ticket and made people take notice.... The season saw 2 losses to perennial Texas HSF Powers Austin Westlake (35-28) and to St Pius X (58-41)...also eeked out a victory over Bryan (35-34) and an OT Win against Temple (26-20) also snuck by FT Bend Marshall (49-47) in the playoffs....

As a team, they rush for 278.8 yards per game... Pass for roughly 172 yards pg..... Total yards average 450.8 (almost same as Aledo)...QB Marquez Perez, is a dynamic dual threat, who had 335 yards of total yards last week and had a hand in 5 of 7 TDs... (on the year, the Tulsa Commit has 3,800 yards w/48 tds)....Joining him in the back field is RB Damondrick Anderson (has 234 carries for 1,732 yards w/19 TDs) in last 3 playoff games, he has 548 yards w/7 TDs....

I think people are overlooking the competitive spirit of this Cougar squad and anointing the Title to Aledo without snapping a ball.... On one social media outlet, the pundits that write for various newspapers all picked Aledo to roll.... The interesting thing about this is that these so-called experts have been unanimous in 4 other games, and in all those games the Underdog Won... That's enough to back the Cougars for me...

Allen Eagles (15-0) -8' Lake Travis Cavaliers (13-2)(57)

3 units played on Over 57

Lean to L Travis +8'

2 Texas Blue Blood programs going at it with a combined 10 State Championships and at least 1 has appeared in the Finals every season.... Travis is the most contemporary with the 6A D1 title last year.. The Cavaliers have 6 State Titles dating back to 2007 (*5 of them in 5A).... Allen has its own hardware, with 4 State Titles dating back to 2008...Trying to win its 4th in 6 years with an outstanding record of 86 wins in 88 games.... Allen and Travis both won Crowns in 2008 (Allen - 5A D1/ L Travis - 4A D1) Remarkably, these two have never faced each other on the gridiron.... Many people were pulling for an Allen/Katy match-up, however, Travis robbed fans of finally getting a bragging rights game between 2 programs that won State in same years of 2008 & 2012 but always in different Divisions.... Katy and Allen always seem to narrowly miss the Colossal match-up by virtue of being in different Divisions.. This year, in the same class and heading to the showdown, Katy got bumped by pass happy Cavaliers....Travis won 28-14 in a contest that was ultimately decided by 2 trick plays that Cavs pulled out of their bag of illusion......

There are so many intangibles involved in this one that I could write a book... Suffice to say, that both teams are a far cry in philosophy and gameplan that they are completely different styles and approaches...

I honestly believe that Lake Travis could be in a world of hurt if All-World Sr QB Mathew Baldwin, (Ohio St pledged) can't go or can't give 100% or even 85% due to a possible meniscus tear in the left knee suffered in the Katy game....

Obviously, QB High has talented back ups that can do the job, but Travis relies on precision and timing to the T... Allen has a great Defense that will become ultra aggressive if that's the case... Allen dominated Round Rock Cedar Ridge (28-7) and only gave up a TD in the last 1:13 when the bench was emptied... Jr QB Grant Tisdale runs the offense for Allen (has completed 66% of his passes for 1,994 yards w/28 Tds and has rushed for 945 yards w/14 Tds) for a top dual threat QB in the state.... Both teams feature electrifying WRs and have very good run games to boot (although Allen has the edge with record breaking RB Brock Sturges leading the way...

I like this one to go over as both teams have give up points this year....Hopefully Baldwin will go and should make the Over fairly easy...

Another great game developing in the Lake Travis/Allen game... Allen leads 21-18 in the 2nd quarter.

A couple of thoughts on this game... It looks like HC Terry Gambill took a page out of Westlake's approach, and is using a 3 man rush with pressure coming by way of Blitz and Stem... Westlake was one of 2 teams to figure out how to slow this offense down... Obviously the win last week at Katy was huge for the Cavs and many people took that result as an epiphany of Today's game and how it would turn out...people reasoned that Katy, who held Travis in check for most of the game would see more of the same with Allen (who has arguably the better defense (by the numbers).... The fact that Cavs used 2 trick plays to seal a W and had to rely on the trickery for the win meant that people assumed Allen would be prepared and with those plays effectively out of the arsenal it would be smooth sailing.... Not so fast, last week's game was played in Wet, Cold, Miserable conditions, which hamstrung Cavs high flying offense considerably.... Today, in the warm confines of AT&T Park, the offense can get back to doing what it does best... Putting points on the board.... It's why I liked the OVER so much....

BTW: I'm hardly a homer for Travis, although I admire their dedication to the pass.... This was the same team, that if you followed my journey this Degenerate Season, you would know that I made a chunk of change playing Judson in the first game of the season... Judson ML paid off handsomel beating Travis 65-45...

The craziest part is that LT qb Baldwin dropped back to pass on the very first offensive play of the game and blew his knee. The back Card has been in the whole time. He is a true Sophomore. Game is now 28-27 and a HELL OF A GAME

Absolutely hell of a game! Lake Travis gave everything and almost got there... 2 early turnovers resulting in 14 points costs LT the SU win... One hell of a football game!

great call on the over.

Midway Panthers (15-0) -5' Cy-fair Bobcats (53)

3 units on the Under 53....

Lean Cy-fair +5'

*Not exactly sure which way this one plays out... Both team looking for 1st State Title, so can expect emotional play by both teams.... Midway has better offense, averaging 45.7 ppg... But this Cy-fair team is the real deal on Defense.... Nothing flashy, nothing crazy, just hard headed Defense and we all know whaqt that mantra says, "Offense wins Games, Defense Wins Championships"

Cy-Fair D is scary good... It hasn't allowed more than 260 yards of total off, or more than 21 points all year... Has held opposition to less than 100 yards 10 times surrendering only 2.4 yards per rush, while forcing 29 Turn-overs (2.1 per game) It has held teams to average of 11.1 ppg... The secondary is speedy and strong, led by Wash St commit DB Erick Hallett (had 23 offers)

I think one only has to look at last week beating 7 time State Finalist Austin Westlake 14-6...(Westlake had averaged 47 points per game...

We shall see what happens

These have been SPECTACULAR games and incredibly well played.

Now that this line is over 7 it is hard not to look seriously at Cy fair.

Been a real profitable 3 days of state championships

From what I could gather, Baldwin was trying to keep a brave face, but the meniscus was toast... Of course without being able to turn or plant.. Well the writing was on the wall... Poor kid just wanted to finish his Senior year on the field... Going to be quite a dogfight up at Ohio St... Urban going to have some decisions to make regarding this kid Baldwin and that kid from Bishop Gorman...

Profitable, yes indeed... I put a couple of units on Cy-Fair just before kick... Wish I would've put more... I'm happy with the return on the investment..
These HSF games were for fun primarily, however, I was able to beat the juice and landed a nice profit this season

Except for you, Subcloser, and Hawkeye there have been crickets in here, so I will evaluate and decide if I'm going to make the effort to post these write-ups...as it became a labor of love but not too sure my family and friends agree... I guess if we made some people some cash that's a good thing...perhaps there are some "ghosts" out there that don't post but look for the plays.. I dunno.. It's been fun getting your plays and feedback... What region of the country are you from?
