Hope everyone had a successful year.

Ended up with 1 mid size doe for the season. Named her slim jim because thats what she will be made into.

Opening morning saw 5 does and passed on them. Then the 4 pointer with the small rack (from the pics I posted) came up and started munching away about 10 feet from my stand. He didnt notice me for about 10 minutes. He also got a pass to grow bigger.

Later that afternoon a doe and a small fawn came by. The fawn also came up to my stand to eat. Both got a pass.

A few minutes later 3 more does come out and I took the biggest one of the bunch. She was facing me at about 100 yards. The shot was a little to the right and low which didnt make it a kill shot. The wife and I tracked her for a 1/2 mile. This time the shot went into the right place for an immediate kill.

The wife saw 2 does the next day but they were to small.

The deer shut off completely after the 1st day. Didnt see another deer the rest of the time. Set the camera up 1 night and they were all over the place. They bedded down during the day. Heard from other hunters the same story. Oh well..will try again next year.

Heres what I learned in the woods this year...woodpeckers make a hell of a racket, squirrels are funny when they bury there food, black and white finch like birds will land on a branch a few inches from your head and just stare at you, and there are wolves near the cabin (found the shit and paw prints.)

Sounds like yall have a short season? We go from mid oct to jan 1 in northern section of Ga. I have an 8pt and could have taken many a doe. This has by far been the best (deer seen) year of hunting I have had in 15 years. I am starting to think the historical drought we are suffering through is forcing them to move more this year. Nothing like being in the woods!
