New Orleans is below sea level and Galveston is above sea level so that helps.
Galveston also has a 20' sea wall to protect a major surge. West end is the trouble end. It is bad already and storm is still 100 miles out.
It may be bad but no way is it Katrina bad.

Galvestons seawall isnt 20 feet. It was designed for 17 ft, built at 15-16 ft, and has sunk at least a foot in the last 104 years since it was built. At its HIGHEST point Galveston is 8 feet above sea level. The wall only protects the ewast part of the island. The west is already toast and the bad stuff isnt even close yet.

Weather Channel says high tide is Galveston is to occur at 3:20 AM EST.
Storm wall will be useless.
In addition, this is when wind and wave is supposed to be most fierce.
Not a good scenario.
I will be playing in a Disc Golf Tournament this weekend @ Carrolton Texas, The 12th Mr. Jim's Open. 36 holes each day, should be a lot of Fun.

11:40 pm ET - The Houston Chronicle reports Power outages are spreading in Texas. CenterPoint Energy is reporting at least 315,000 customers were without electricity about 9 p.m. CT tonight. Entergy Texas, which services communities to the east of Houston, had about 29,300 customers without power at 9 p.m.
