Current Odds to Win The Championship

Nc +130
Illinois +200

I would say based on those odds NC -2 1/2 over Illinois.

Thoughts?

i like a prop bet that one will lose this weekend.however,i like illinois if they meet due to guard play.shut down or slow down may and i think offensively unc will struggle. yesterday wisky had 3 chances to go ahead when score was 74-73 but did not play for good shot. if unc advances and the other team can play a good half court game ,unc could be in trouble. illinois can do that but louisville would choose to run with them.

I agree, I think the line would be UNC -2.5. That would be a fun championship game. All year long half the analyists have said NC is the best team in the nation and half have said Illinois is. It would be great to see them battle and prove on the court and not behind the mic who the best team is. I think MSU will beat NC however. We will see!!!!

I think it depends on final four game outcomes. If both blow out their opponent, UNC -3 over ILL. If Illinois dominates UL and UNC struggles to beat MSU, then the game might be pk or Illinois -2. If UNC dominates MSU and Illinois struggles, then UNC -4.

cant see any scenario where illinois is the favorite. carolina will be the chalk.

but like sun tzu said, they dont play the 3rd place game any more, so it will likely be moot anyway.

I am so impressed with the Big 10 as of late, that I think I would take Illinois over UNC, I think the x-factor in that game would me McCants, if he does not have a good game (which he is known to blow), then I think Illinois awesome D and the fact that UNC is coached by Roy will give them the win lol...tough game to cap really, coin flip because of how stacked they are

I completely disagree with you. Sean May is the "X" factor. He is playing the best basketball of any big man on the tourney. Illinois struggled big time guarding Frye from AZ. I don't see how Illinois will be able to stop SEAN MAY AND MARVIN WILLIAMS? Thats pretty tough to do especially when Williams is UNC's 6th man. Illinois gave layups all night to AZ. I think UNC is more athletic and deeper than AZ. Would be great game and hopefully we get to see it!

sean may X-factor?--hes arguably the best player in the nation; x-factor is a guy who is inconsistent in my book anyway... now if you want to toss Marvin in there, maybe--he played like crap vs Wisky ... tho the kid can sure drill his Fts last 15 games or so

Don't have to worry

Don't have to worry

Spartans will beat Carolina so you don't have to worry about it.

Good job being the 3rd person on the thread to say the same thing.

I hate to do it but I agree with my young overweight friend vyrus. May isn't the x-factor he's reliable, but McCants on offense and defense is the player that puts them over the top.

on one hand the roy factor may come into play, but then again what may put them over the top is pure luck, like fred brown throwing worthy a pass or webber calling timeout. but then again the baby blue rabbit foot may have been used up with the ridiculous travel call versus villanova.

I look at the "X" factor as someone who is the difference in the game. Illinois vs UNC are both extremely talented teams but the difference between the two is SEAN MAY and you can argue Marvin Williams as well. Sean May doesn't control the ball so he needs someone to get him the ball. There is tons of examples where teams repeatedly fail to give their big man the ball in games despite him having huge advantage. So its no given that UNC feeds him the ball consistently throughout the game. If UNC gets him the ball, UNC will win because he is the "X" factor. He is the difference maker between the two teams. All other positions are relatively a wash.

Now by your definition of an "X" factor, I would argue J. Williams is your man. He is a super talented senior who is playing injured right now. He has shot the ball poorly for 7+ straight games now but UNC continues to win despite this starter struggling so badly. He now gets 1 week to rest and heal up and he very well could explode on Sat. By having a great game, all he needs to do is hit 1-2 treys and put up 7-10pts with good shooting %. Not to mention his defense and rebounding will improve! That would cinch the victory for UNC. This guy gets wide open shots all game every game. He is projected to be drafted in the 2nd round of NBA draft. So without question, he is super talented and very well could explode on Sat. after a week to heal up!

Imagine having J. Williams start, play well, then sit out and in comes M. Williams (6th man) who is NBA lottery pick talent. The whole time you also have Sean May to deal with down low. Sean May is the guy who creates the biggest mismatch. If he gets his thing going, then it makes so easy for Jawad and Marvin to get their job done and both will always have fresh legs. Not to mention UNC has Felton, McCants, etc all on the outside just waiting to drill their treys!

If J. Williams plays the way he can, UNC will blow out every opponent they face. All he has to do is drain "OPEN" shots, which is something he has not done the last 7+ games. This will make opposing defenses guard him and make it easier on the rest of his teamates on the court. Instead, UNC has been getting 1-6 shooting type performances from this talented player. That is why UNC has not blown out or beat their last two opponents convincingly!

BTW, Illinois doesn't have anybody who matches up physically with Sean May, J. Williams, and Marvin Williams. Similar to Illinois not having anybody who matched up with Frye and Adams from AZ. We all know how the AZ game went and how AZ exploited those matchups! UNC has 3 advantages to exploit while AZ had 2. The problem is one of UNC's advantages is playing piss poor ball. That still leaves UNC with 2 advantages over Illinois, and 3 advantages over Illinois if J. Williams gets back his game! J. Williams who is a senior and a starter who has 1 week of rest to heal up, is not a reach in hoping he gets back his game!

Lol I know Scott, you have to stop being so one dimensional. WE KNOW Sean May will play well, and we know the illinois guards will play well, the X FACTOR is the guy who IF HE PLAYS AT HIS best can make the difference for the game. lol geez Scott, stop getting so tightened up about your futures bets

tough pick for me, I would think NC would be favored by 2 or 3. Obviously May is going to get his points, but how in the hell is NC gonna guard Illinois. Defense is really shaky for NC at times, Villanova exposed it. Rebounding will be a problem for Illinois as well. I would take Illinois though, seems like the ball is bouncing their way this year.

Jawad Williams has been injured which is why he hasn't played well the last 6 games or so.

What many of you don't realize is that our defense is set up to allow teams to shoot the ball a lot. Of the final 4 teams, UNC has the 2nd best defensive shooting % in the tournament so far (at least read that at another site). The defense is set up to collapse down low and let shooters take outside shots to fuel the break. When teams hit shots more than usual (a la wisky etc) it appears to the avg person that the "defense is terrible".

This UNC team seems to play to the oppositions level, so this weekend I fully expect them to have their A game.
