I couldn't pass up the 20-1 value

the Royals are a young team.....
but i couldn't pass up the 20 -1
to win the division. The Twins and
White Sox are favoured, but i like
Kansas City's chances. If the young arms
can hold up, i think Beltran, Sweeney, Randa,
and the boys have a legitimate shot.

I fired off $50 to win $1000.

Honestly, I think it's throwing money out the window. I would be shocked if they won 80 games.

The problem with the Royals is that they don't have the support for the 3 guys that you mentioned. The arms are good, but once they've been seen a few times, I don't think that they'll be much of a problem for the opposing hitters.

Sweeney's a stud, though.

honestly- the best comparison i can give you is that the royals will be the denver nuggets of the major leagues. they play hard every single night, always bust a$$, give you your moneys worth when you bet on em, but overall will be terrible.

Tony Pena is a master of developing young pitching. He proved it in the Astros organization and that is why he was hired. This team can play defense with anyone especially when the get Beltran back in the lineup. They have a hard throwing bullpen, 3 guys bringing it close to 100mph and Grimsley with a nasty sinker. OFcourse everyone knows about Sweeney and Beltran, There are alot of young players who can play. Angel Berroa is one of the top 3-4 defensive shortstops in all of baseball and has gotten better with the bat. Ken Harvey can flat out hit, Brandon Berger and Dee Brown can flat out hit and play defense, and Raul Ibanez has went from veteran journeyman to everday player who hits for a high average and drives the ball out of the park. If the Twins and A's can do it then so can the Royals. The Twins will probably win the division but the Royals will have a good shot at placing second.

From what I saw the past two nites (unfortunately for me) is that Affeldt and Hernandez can bring it. Hernandez had major movement on all his pitches, and Affeldt throws upper 90's and changes speeds with his curve. If they can get some run support they can win a few games. Or, if they keep on playing the White Sox who look as flat as a 7 day old open can of Pepsi out there. Either way.

Royals go 2-0 and you throw money on them to win the central... You must have to much money. LOL Royals will be lucky to win 75 games

Fawk all the haters. . .

Fawk all the haters. . .

I'm sure that all of you said the same thing last year about the Angels. That's why they call them a long shot. The way things are going, I think it's a good bet. All you have to say is Anaheim Angels! They were gutter dwellers the last several years, and I believe that they finished 40 games under.500 the year before. They had the worst start in franchise history last year. (along with the best) If Anaheim can win the World Series, then anything can happen! And I mean anything! Ohio State wins over evil Miami, Tampa Bay wins over the hated Raiders, Anaheim ANGELS win over the superhated Giants. These are all signs of the Apocalypse. Get onboard while there are still good seats left. I wouldn't doubt it if Marquette won the whole thing.

honestly i think they have a good chance of winning a lot of

games, it doesn't take big names to win baseball games. the

angels were a perfect example, they have some good hitters and

some good pitchers...its worth the money in my opinion

Come on, let's not go cuckoo for cocoa puffs over Dee Brown. He's been a highly touted prospect the past few years, but he has shown nada in the majors. Let's see he hit major league pitching over the course of an entire season (higher than .245) before saying he can 'flat out hit'.

Well, Dee Brown tore the cover off all spring at about 500 and came through with a big hit early in the game today. Keep on hating. Don't sleep on Ken Harvey either!

Spring training does not equal regular season. Let's see him put together an average year in the majors first before we start going ga-ga over him.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the royals finish 2nd in this division. Still think they will finish 3rd but it wouldn't be a big surprise to them #2. And if there was a divison to take a chance with a longshot this would be it. However I still think it would too many breaks for KC to win it. I just hope they don't throw these young pitchers arms off because they have some good talent.

keep in mind the indians started last season 11-1 and didnt even finish the season at .500, and even though cleveland stripped their team and traded it away- it was still probably better than what kansas city puts out there.

i believe the pirates started the season hot last year too.

reality will probably set in within the next 2 weeks.

i absolutely DO NOT buy the anaheim angels comparison. that team had talent, and they had good young pitching (ortiz and washburn) that they made even better with adding vets like appier and sele.

kansas city did the OPPOSITE. they TRADED their #1 starter in byrd. and who knows if sweeney or beltran or ibanez will even be around for half the season- as they will likely be traded as the royals are cash-strapped.

really theres no comparison with kansas city and anaheim imo. two completely different situations

First off I will say this. I am a longtime White Sox fan..... What I saw in this 3 game set was a KC team that has a very young pitching staff. Kc has improved there bullpen a bit from last year by the looks of it thus far. Like someone said either in this thread or another "After a few rotations everyone will be on these young guys" Oh how true that is ask the white sox when they had all that young pitching. Started off hot early in the season because of lack of really quality scouting reports. Now all those young guns are no bodys.

Kansas City's AA team is here in Wichita and the last few years it has been 90% pitching 10% hitting. Many of these guys where pitching AA ball last year.... Now you think they have a shot @ winning the Central. I dont get it. I just don't get it.
