sun: 6-3 +5.1
all(5 days): 24-17 +13.5

That's what I get for playing 4 run-lines on the day. 3 losses were Braves, Cards and Astros
... at least they "won"

--------------------------------------------------------
Phillies(Padilla)@Angels(Washburn)
-Padilla has some good stuff, but it sure hasn't been good enough lately as he's allowed 5 ER's in 2 of his last 3 (6 IP both times); the M's, in his last, can be forgiven, but he also allowed the Mets to do it to him at Shea with 11 hits off him; in 6 road starts, I'd call 2 beauties, 2 decent, and 2 stinkers; lefties batting .315 vs Padilla on the year and .294 in his career (Angels lefties: Fullmer,Anderson,Davanon(sw),Spiezio(sw),and Kennedy)
-Call me crazy, but with the wrong injuries to the right people, Washburn could be in the running for AL Cy Young this year; solid all year, the only concern I see for him coming into this one (besides the Phillies current hot streak) is his home/away discrepancies:
away 2003: 2.42 era, .217 oba
home 2003: 4.00 era, .264 oba
away career: 3.02 era, .219 oba
home career: 4.50 era, .271 oba
It should also be noted that a good % of the home runs he serves up - 2003 AND career - also come at home.
-Phillies are batting .249 vs lefties with a pitiful .341 slugging pct; that includes only 5 HR's, 4 less than the next worst (9, both D'Rays and Padres)
-Angels around .280 vs righties on season, and that # has been going up lately, as they bounced back with 8 yesterday (Penny start) after Pavano did a number on them a couple days before; game before that they managed 7 in a 14 inning affair (Vazquez start); these totals came on the heels of them starting June by bagging 9, 15, and 11, all with righties starting
-both clubs with good pens, but I give a clear edge to the Angels here, too
-not much head-to-head, but Jim Thome is 3 for 16 (.188) with a homer and 7 K's vs Washburn
'nuff said
#s crunched:
P.OPS: Phillies: 672, Angels: 787
PITCH: Phillies: 78, Angels: 85
The Phillies may have managed to take a series from the A's, but that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot coming in here; Phillies won at home with two studs going (Wolf & Millwood), against a very poor A's offense, but what they did vs lefties Zito and Mulder was not that impressive. I commented yesterday that the Phillies must be desperate to score some runs, and that they did. They come in here weary after yesterday's doubleheader, as even Larry Bowa suggests by the comments, "I'm sure a lot of guys will be dragging after this flight." I have respect for Padilla, but Washburn is hotter, Angels bats are hotter, and please tell me why this line is so low?
I like the Angels, 71-29
Price: Angels -145 (PV +11)
PLAY:
Angels -+- 4.35/3

Anybody have any thoughts on how the hockey game may or may not affect this game? Hockey should be close to over by the time this baby starts, barring 4 or 5 OT's. I'd say a fan reaction seems inevitable, but as a distraction to the players ... probably not.

Good Experiences To All
