Well I've been getting a little behind....so here we go.
Now speaking of sleeper teams, I think this is another team that might come out of the shadows this year. Surprisingly enough this teams defense was pretty decent last year, and with alot of young guys it should get even better this year. Their ability to get pressure from upfront seemed to make all the difference and with John Henderson and Tony Brackens I don't see how this will change in the coming season. This defensive line was a pleasant surprise after they lost Gary Walker and Seth Payne to the expansion Houston Texans. Come the offseason this team adds Hugh Douglas to an already stout line which should make them even more potent. Mike Peterson is an underrated linebacker who will add some speed to the linebacking corps. He was one of the bright spots on Indianapolis Colt's defense. So we are talking about a defense that finished 19th overall, that has added Hugh Douglas, and Mike Peterson, and has added a year of experience to young players such as Jason Craft, Marlon McCree and Fernando Bryant. Watch out. Looking at the other side of the ball you'll see some more familiar faces with Jimmy Smith and Mark Brunell. A guy that some have forgot about but re-emerged last year is Fred Taylor. Can he stay healthy this year? Can he be effective after signing a new contract? I'm not sure, but if he can play at the top of his game this team will make the playoffs. Stacey Mack has shown that he can be productive in the back up role. If you do any fantasy pools I'm sure you've heard his name. They need Mark Brunell to stay healthy and in addition to that his age is becoming a concern. So where do you draft if you are this team? I would say if you can get a wide receiver that can make an immediate impact, go for him. If not, then I would try to get someone to beef up this offensive line. Jimmy Smith receives far too much attention, but you know what, Mark Brunell still finds a way to get him the ball. Unless you can get someone who can draw attention, and pull a DB off of Jimmy Smith I think this team should get someone who will give Marky Mark more time to throw. This team might want to look for a backup/future QB in the later rounds.
