I fired a man today

I have had to fire 3 people in my life and it is not easy.

Everytime it was their fault, but I still felt bad because they had family that depended on their paycheck.

I've fired workers where it was really easy and fired some where it was really hard. The hard one's were situations where I was told we had to lay people off because of decreasing workloads.

The easy ones were the ones where I laid out the expectations, they continued to miss them, we continued to talk about it, they continued to miss them, and I had to take action. If you fired this guy for poor performance, it should not have been a shock to him. If it was, you need to rethink your approach.

He obviously wasn't good at what he was doing. Think of it as a way for him to find something better. He'll make it. Probably will be better for you both.
