I have this lingering question that i never saw answered and i like to hear what some of your opinions are.
How in the world were we so defenseless on 9/11? Now if it was one plane then i could give Bush a pass but this was spread out over two hours and we just sat there and did nothing. How is this possible with the biggest defense budget by far in the world. The most military bases scattered all over our country and not one of our jets got off of the ground to fight? How is it that Bush got a pass for this? I can't imagine what would have been said if this was Clinton. "He showed he was over matched" all kinds of rotten stuff would have been said and he would have rightfully deserved it. How in the world did this guy get elected again just based off of this? The bigger question might be how the hell could the democrats not pounce on this and till this day i haven't heard one of them say anything about why after almost an hour went by, people had to die at the Pentagon.

Sponge,

the Defense was a mess that day. Cheney is quoted saying ""And its my understanding we have already taken a couple aircraft out at about 10:49"

How does our defense make a mistake like that?

Bush has shown he has been unprepared for everything. He is a dope. Unprepared to defend this country from foreign attacks, unprepared to re-act to a natural disaster, etc, etc. Just complete ignorance running the white house.

I will take a president that is getting a little head on the side in the office any day over a complete idiot that plays the role of a 'morally' good guy. Even though that is BS too.

The only thing Bush is prepared for is surrounding himself w/ corrupt assholes that control his puppet strings.

Its almost as if 9/11 gave them the freedom to be as corrupt as they want, while taking away alot of our freedom.

This quote from Cheney would you happen to know what side of the mouth it came out of?

So you would have been able to order our fighters to blow the planes and many innocent americans out of the sky ?

I agree we were caught off guard. It is hard to plan for terroist attacks.

Scotty its not hard when you get a memo on Aug 6th that told you it was coming. 1 plane maybe but those people in 2nd WTC building as well as the Pentagon in no way with our military power should have died. Yes you shoot them down. That is the risk of flying and by now everyone should know this. The first one gave you a big enough hint with what was going on. The August Memo Bush got on the 6th was the biggest hint you could get. I wonder if there was fifty planes if we still would have stood there and watched. If Clinton would have sat in that classrooms while we were being attacked for seven minutes he would have been impeached the next week. What a complete failure.

weren't the 'transponders' turned off in the planes.

I believe radar could 'see' them, but could not get an altitude or 'track' them.

also, i believe flight 77, penatagon, plane was flying under 2000 ft:scared from around 10 miles from pentagon,

I agree, the first one, could have been an accident, the 2nd one, everyone knew it was terrorism.

When you have 1000's of flights a day, im sure it was 'chaotic' to say the least,

btw, wasnt there another small plane that crashed along the hudson river, i believe a baseball player was flying, soon after 9/11. If I remember it flew along hudson erratically and did a hard turn into a building....

btw, is the theory still out there, fight 93 was 'shot' down or is it agreed the passengers 'fought' the terroists and the terrorists crashed the plane..

The small aircraft was flown by Yankee pitcher, former Phillie & Red, Corey Lidle.

There was a decent movie about this stuff called "Flight 93" that was released in 2006. It offers a "you are there" style of story telling which may answer some of the questions out there. It is based on "official accounts" so take it with a grain of salt, but its still a good flick (if you can stomach the 9/11 experience depicted again in a film).

According to the film, the interface of civilian and military controlers was a farce. Then, the fighters scrambled out of a base in Virginia, and headed out to sea (as advanced planning held that all threats would have been directed at the US from outside the country).
