Everybody chill... Moral dilemmas ...

Just say you would have paid the negative balance eventually and move on...

FWIW,

I would have emailed the book and told them of the problem, as I have done twice in the past, but that's just me. I know others wouldn't. Both times I was credited once with a free play and once with a bonus ($50, not much, but something). To each his own, and you guys shouldn't get angry over others actions. I 100 percent agree it wasn't what I would do, but trying to convey how you would act to people who act differently is a daunting if not impossible task.

Ok just one question for everyone who's chimed in or read this thread...

so you're playing blackjack and you have 19, and the dealer draws a 19 also. but he pays you instead of calling it a draw.

do you:

a. sit and smile
b. announce that the dealer screwed up

Isn't it crazy how life is full of greys, rather than black and white?

I've got paid on blackjack mistakes, just like anybody else, and I have rarely said anything. Usually it happens so fast, that it would totally derail the flow of the table to unpay me; other times I simply notice too late.

But each situation has its own "feel" to it. The fact that you brought it up on a discussion board means you had mixed feelings about what to do also. That's a good thing... it's good to ponder moral dilemmas.

I don't think you can draw a moral line between screwing someone you know and screwing a big company.. it eventually reaches a slippery-slope where you end up screwing everybody. Treat everyone as you wish they treated you is a cliched but pretty easy approach to life.

I think where you lost people was your combative and increasingly self-righteous take on what you did. You asked people what they thought of the situation, and upon hearing their dissenting views you became entrenched in the opposite camp. That leads me to believe you like to stir shit up :)

bottom line is I didn't do anything illegal, except bet illegally. To equate it to stealing somoenes property or using money mistakenly put in your bank account is not a vaild comparison . no charges can be pressed against me for what I did whatsoever. and really, thats the bottom line. so suck on my nuts.

seriously though i'm just amazed at how many responded with goody-twoshoes opinions. unreal.

Tonto, I've never noticed it before so I thought I would ask but is that guy in your avatar mad because someone took a crap on the top right of his head or for something else?

Its all about intent to deprive the owner. If you used money that was deposited into your bank account accidently, and you didn't have the intent of knowing it wasn't your money, you couldn't be charged with theft.

If a teenager takes a car for a joy-ride, he can not be charged with theft because he does not have intent to deprive the owner.

Intent is one of the prongs the prosecution must meet.

On the course!

Yeah.....I'm sure most of us would have to agree that there is no similarity between money mistakenly put in your bank account, and money mistakenly put in your offshore account.

One is a real business which you would treat with honor and respect, and the other had a gun to your head to get you to deposit money, and is trying to fuck you out of it at every corner, so good for you....you fucked 'em first!

I think I have it now.
