I like ND over Buckeyes

I am much more of a Buckeye fan than a ND fan, but I like ND in this game. Everybody is pumping up Ohio State a little too much. They are a solid team, but this team isn't dominate to the point where I think they can manhandle ND. First of all, Troy Smith has not been the all-star this season everybody is talking about. He is prone to turnovers and mental mistakes. Ohio State's offense will not walk all over ND. Second, ND's receivers create mismatches for any defense in the country. They will make plays. Third, I think Weiss outcoaches Tressel in this game. Tressel's coaching in the Texas game this year made me sick. He is a little too conservative and sometimes makes poor play calls/decisions. Finally, this is not a home game for Ohio State. This is a neutral field situation where I think ND could pull off the minor upset. Good luck.

I agree on several points there. Specifically, MINOR UPSET. I dont think some people grasp the concept that ND beating OSU would not stop the world from turning; heck, these are two top 5 teams going at it, its not ridiculous to think either team could win, and win convincingly!

And its nice to see someone say how OVERRATED OSU IS! You can make the argument that OSU is overrated just as easily as you can argue that ND is overrated. Both teams played one of the national title contenders very well at home but came up just short. Both had their best wins AT Michigan. Both have showed us they can whoop up on inferior opponents. However, OSU is the only one who showed an inability to win a BIG ROAD GAME when they lost at PSU. We dont know what ND will do in this game against a top 5 team on the road

The line scared me a bit when it came out so high but lets not forget that OSU is a highly touted public favorite as well. If the line had opened at 3 at online books, I think $$ woulda come in TOO HEAVILY for OSU, and an OSU win woulda killed the books. The way it was cleverly designed, alot of ND money came in early, and OSU money as the line dropped making one team only a 60% consensus so far. Mission accomplished for the books, so I wouldnt read too much into the line "begging for ND money early". In a game like this that could go either way, with two heavily bet public favorites, the books dont want to get killed either way. The safe play to get money coming on both sides was a high ND line. Period. With nearly equal money on both sides, the books wont get burned no matter WHO wins.

couldn't agree more with all of those points. I think the outcome of the game will be the play of Troy Smith. He is the key factor on whether OSU will be putting TDS or Fgs on the board. The only worry I see for ND is the red zone, OSU Lbs come more into play with the passing game when the field is shortened

Nor has OSU defense faced a "passing" offense ranking in the nation's top 5. It will be interesting.

Vegas Baby !!
You mean the same offense that was "out-passed" on at least 3 different occasions this year?? When you put up big passing numbers against :
SYR
NAVY
BYU
PURD
WASH
STAN
TENN
PITT

These numbers seem REALLY skewed,if you look at the competitin.

Not to mention, they were outrushed in 8 of their last 10 games, by these same teams. This is why ND will lose.

However, they did get ganked in the USC game. That was a win for ND, in my opinion !

only good offense that OSU slowed down was northwestern and they might have been overated offensively as shown in the bowl game (don't look at points, d did all the work). minnesota, texas and Michigan all put up points on the bucks. This is one of those something has to give games. Both teams have beat a soft schedule

michigan points came off two turnovers. they barely had 100 yards of offense in the 1st half and had around 250 for the game.

texas scored 25 points on ohio state. nobody besides osu has come even close to slowing texas down.

the only game where ohio state's defense looked bad was the minnesota game. otherwise, michigan state for about a quarter and a half moved the ball. but thats it. its been borderline dominant for about 90% of the season

So. Cal
At first I love OSU but after reading the posts here and doing some thinking I wouldnt be surprised if ND wins. It still would be an upset I dont care what goggles you guys ar looking through, when the public is heavily betting a favorite, and they lose, thats an upset.

Im surprised nobody has brought about Big10. What was touted as the toughest conference all year by many including myself, has not showed up at all in the bowls this year. I thinnk ND will score easily enough against OSU. I remember capping that Minnesota game thinking #1 rushing offense vs #1 rushing defense. Minnesota didnt cover but they found a way to put up 30 points againt OSU.

ND hasnt stopped anbody on defense this year, they stop people same way SC stops them. By coming out fast and getting a team out of their gameplan by having the try to comeback. OSU can beat ND, they have better athletes and played a little bit stronger schedule. But Big10 has not shown up to play this year in the bowls I do not know what it is that would be any different for OSU.

I think the over is the best play here.

Your first mistake is the public is NOT heavily betting the favorite. ND is about 60/40 right now over OSU. They are the UNDERDOG. An ND win today would NOT be a major upset, no how, no way. The LVSC opened this line at 3. A 3 point dog winning is NOT A MAJOR UPSET

Just to prove im not a homer, and I can be objective, I dont even have a wager on ND today. I think OSU is better than ND talent wise, but I have this game capped out as a 3 or 4 point game with the buckeyes winning. The only way I would play is with ND on a teaser, because I'm not gonna count on a point or two difference in the spread and my system, especially with a great defense on the field that can score and throw EVERYTHING off with one big play.

Gun to my head I would take the points b/c theres minimal value there, but I'm afraid of ND's defense letting them down bigtime today. They have only played from behind in 2 games: USC and Michigan State. The result: 2 losses. They came back from 3 tds down against MSU but that was a high school defense compared to what ND will see today. I'm afraid if ND falls behind by more than 7 early. For example, OSU scores on offense early then gets a turnover or something and goes up 10 or 14 early. I would certainly doubt the come from behind win in that scenario, and it would be an uphill battle just to grab the cover, thats why I'm staying away. ND defense has been real shaky early in games, especially on the road, and OSU can certainly force an early turnover. The recipe is there for ND to fall behind quickly so its not worth the risk to me

THOUGH I THINK THE FINAL WONT BE AS CLOSE AS MOST THINK :)

very possible, thats why I'm not playing ND. its similar to the "beamer ball" theory. If ND is playing from behind, a TD lead for OSU could easily turn into double digits with a big defensive play.

Not saying today is a blowout either way, but sometimes its the "close" ones that arent so close and the "blowouts" that end up being thrillers.
