Icing the kicker should be against the rules

It's BS. Calling a timeout literally a half a second before the snap. Totally a pschycological move especially when the kicker makes it. Just happy Crosby made the second one. Let's go pack need another win to make up for my 3 win season 😂 And my GOY debacle

I agree that it is unsportsmanlike and usually worthless, but I'm curious how you would police it? What if a team genuinely needed at time out? What if they only had 10 guys out there? What if they had the wrong guys out there?

I just don't know how you determine if the coach is icing the kicker or needs a time out.

Not many ways I can think of either. But in a high pressure moment like that it truly is unsportsman like

Very good point.
At least for starters, you should be only allowed to call one time out.
Back to back timeouts are BS:nono:

Perhaps have officials confirm before the whistle that's the coaches have the correct personnel on the field ....and make coaches aware after the refs confirmation with each side that they have the correct 11 out there, no timeouts will be allowed....give them an extra 15 seconds on the play clock and officials must confirm with them before any whistles are blown to start the play

Because I tend to agree...that is not what the timeouts were intended for....

And plus...how many times have the kickers missed the 1st one and made the 2nd? I can't believe it's really an advantage....just wastes time and annoys fans

On FG attempts only, have 2 clocks, a 35 second clock for the defensive team, and a 40 second clock for the offensive team. It would be fair because sometimes you will be the kicking team and sometimes the defending team. You could still ice the kicker, but I think is unfair to do so split seconds before he kicks it.
In baseball the batter can ask for timeout just before the pitcher pitches, but it is not always granted.
On the other hand I love it when it backfires and the kicker gets a second chance!

How is it unsportsman-like? Time outs are time outs.

I didn't see any complaints all year when Rodgers was catching defenses substituting. In the era of player safety, shouldn't that be unsportsman-like? Not very safe to run a play while players are running off the field, players on the field not set....

FWIW, I have no problem with either, just playing devil's advocate here :00hour

Its simple and I've been preaching it for years.

You have to call timeout on the field. That's the way it used to be.

I can't stand seeing these coaches calling timeout to save penalties like delay of game, etc. Its like they're hitting select on a controller. And sometimes the play goes on...guys get hit...sometimes late hits are called or guys get hurt/injured/etc

If its called on the field, then it will be seen in time and the play won't happen. I love icing the kicker....but not the way its being done. Its Bush League. Players are playing such a crucial down and then they find out after the fact the play didn't happen. Just total Bush League.

Call timeouts on the field...maybe even make an extra provision that to call a timeout on a FG in last 2 minutes (something along those lines) you have to be within the hash marks to have it awarded.

And I agree....had Packers +4 and was sort of hoping Dallas would win....but not like that. I'm so glad Crosby hit it the 2nd time as well.

They are always trying to figure a way to shorten the game and this looks like a good way to shorten it.No more icing time outs.

do away with timeouts completely, like soccer.

sorry about any lost ad revenue, but the games need to be shortened, ... and maybe more people end up tuning in down the line to see a more exciting product.
