Replying to another thread got me wondering about how books will handle the betting options this season.

Can you find out form some of the books what the lines will look like? Will every game be -1.5 & ML since there are no ties?

How will shoot out wins and losses be handled?

Surely shoot out goals won't count towards totals, right?

Lots of possibilities and would like to find out ASAP about this stuff.

Probably won't be betting much hockey the first week or so, but will be watching what the books do.

maybe head to head and handicap +-.5 for 60min+OT

european hockey games are usually for 60min, +-.5 for both teams ( like IFK +.5 - HPK -.5 and IFK-.5 - HPK +.5 ) , three way for 60min and head to head for whole game OT and SO included. Over/under is for 60min.

If bookies start season with 6? total i'm with under in most games. When looking results from pre season there has been a lot of games under 6?. Like yesterday just one out of six went over.

67 goals in 10 games Friday (6.7 avg)

53 goals in 7 games Saturday (7.5 avg)

28 goals in 6 games Sunday (4.6 avg)

Total 148 goals in 23 games (6.4 avg)

While I don't disagree with you, I just think the knee jerk reaction by the public and the books concerning the new rules will have the O/U lines a bit higher than they SHOULD be.

"We will offer a total on the game including any overtime played or shootout,? says Pinnaclesports' Simon Noble. ?[But] in the event of the game being decided by shootout, only one goal will be added to the winner`s final score for betting purposes.?

I don't think I like that at all. The shootout will HAVE to produce a winner so it's automatically one more goal when they finish 60 mins tied.

penguinfan, i agree about O/U lines, i wish that usual game line is 6?.

There has been many shoot out games, but that's pre season and as we all know teams are not even close to their final format. And because teams rosters are not finished playing tactics are what they are.

and about that pinnacle rule, i think it is good for under betting, if the line is 6? it comes up only in 3-3 60min situation.
