since you were on the topic of the Expos in another thread.... were you familiar with their minor league teams way back when?? is the name Dave Hoeksema familiar to you at all? he spent 6 years with a contract with them in the 80's/90's or so.

He's one of my sons LL coaches this year, and it appears as if he's gonna be a great coach!!!!

i wouldn't have figured him going semi-pro that early, as he graduated high school in 1977!!!! mustn't have finished at IA :(


wasn't sure where i recognized his name from. could have been from central high school (during my West High School days) or well, being a hawkeye fan, it could have been from there...LOL

all i know for sure is it seems as if he is going to be a fabulous coach to these boys!!!! (my son has been so lucky in getting good coaches.) He's gonna push them without being a total D. Head about it.....he's there to TEACH, and not PREACH and EXPECT (but hope for)

DAVID HOEKSEMA played high school baseball for Coach Bill Freese at Davenport Central. He went on to the University of Iowa on a baseball scholarship, playing shortstop for Coach Duane Banks in the late 70?s. He signed a pro baseball contract with the Montreal Expos after his college career. He played in professional baseball six years reaching Triple A. While at Davenport Central David hit an average of .382 with 20 home runs, 128 RBI?s and had a fielding average of .942. He also pitched with a record of 22-8, ERA of 2.04 and struck out 177. He was All Conference, All-District and All-State, playing in the 1977 All-Star Game. He was honored with the Davenport Rotary Citizenship Award in 1977. At Iowa his batting average was .325, with 12 home runs, leading the team in batting average with a .326 in 1979. He was All-Big Ten Conference shortstop in 1980. In the pro?s David had a average of .275; best year he batted .303, and hit 40 home runs in professional baseball.
