How many stretchers would those pussies need
The first period was some tough hitting
Those soccer clowns would last 30 seconds before the 1st DOC arrived with his spray and stretcher
What a difference ..
Men vs. boys

just like the rest of the world thinks amercans are pussies for playing rugby (american football)with helmets pads and stoppages every 10 sec..
if getting checked and hit was not a foul and was part of the game (being aware of an incoming hit)in soccer they would play on .

hookie looks like you have some problems with soccer or u r really bored.
how many american great athletes from NFL and MLB would be able to run about 10 miles every single game without being replaced. there's no time outs in soccer either.

All of them if they trained for it, that's what makes them great athletes. There's no way in the world you will convince me that the skill position players in the NFL wouldn't be able to handle the physical demands of soccer. If you want to argue about the distinct skill sets of the game that's one thing, but to think that a gifted RB or WR couldn't hack the cardiovascular workout of soccer is silly.

in terms of conditioning, i don't think a skilled WR in football could keep up with a soccer player. Look at some of them, after a major run, they need the an oxygen mask. Soccer players don't have that option.

I would love to see the upset, i suffered enough yesterday receiving phone calls and emails (pictures) from my portuguese friends rubbing it in that portugal won and italy lost. Yup, the portuguese fans yesterday in Toronto celebrated in italian territory. I heard 2 small fights broke out, not surprised, happens all the time. lol

Keep an eye especially on their passing technique (beautiful) and #10 (ronaldinho), arguably the best player in the world right now, his feet can do magic. They played weak in their 1st game and I know they want to rebound. Should be a great game!

I agree, my point was that a skilled WR of NFL caliber could be trained to put up with the aerobic demands of soccer, but they are geared for speed burst and cuts, more anaerobic activities.

agreed. but credit to a footballplayer with some extra weight added on, not an easy thing. Anyone know how much extra weight a WR is usually carrying from equipment?

A WR is on the field for about 70-80 15 second plays...

That is about 20 mins of actually physcial activity even less when you consdier about half of those plays they barely do anything......not to mention that other 40 mins they are resting on the sidelines getting a drink sitting on the bench, or in front of fan etc....

Then they get spells for the the break between every quarter & about 1,000 commerical breaks.

Most soccer players are out there for 90 straight minutes & have to be able to make a full on 130 yard run at the 90th minute if need be....only halftimes....no breaks for quarters, commericals, they dont come off the field, they no fans or heaters.

If you can not see that soccer players are BY FAR the most fit cardiovascularly then you are just too bias to even discuss anythihg with & you may as well change your name to SCOTT4USC! :com:

Do most of you realize how much betting a soccer pitch is compared to a football field...

Football field is 120 yards (including endzones) by 52.5 yards.

Soccer pitch is 130 yards by 100 yards.

You are completely missing my point. Marathoners run 26 miles straight, would make a soccer play look like a chump in just cardiovascular conditioning, does that make them a "tougher athlete." What I'm saying is that if Terrell Owens trained his whole life for the physical demands of soccer instead of football he'd have no problem doing it. That's what makes him a great athlete. Same idea would apply to Lebron James, Lance Armstrong, etc. They are all on a different level but train for the specific demands of their craft.

I've been a competitive swimmer my whole life, did a 10,000 meter workout today, that I would imagine no NFL player or soccer star could finish. Does that make me a better athlete than them all? Of course not, my body has just been trained for a specific skill set and aerobic capacity of that skill set.

If you can't see that great athletes are great athletes and could train their bodies to meet the physical demands of any sport, then you might be the Scott4USC in this arguement.

You guys can talk up the game of soccer, chess, badminton, or collecting stamps. Regardless of the athletes involved, the game itself, or your personal passions for the sport, it's NEVER EVER going to catch on here. End of story.

That is fine with me. I dont really care if America misses the boat on the great sport.

I am content watching English Premiership, French Div 1 etc on TV & following it via the net.

I actually still attend about as many games per year live as I do other "American" sports, sans maybe baseball which I do frequent quite often.

I am not the one missing out on it, the US as a whole is the one losing out.

The only reason I would want the game to catch on more is that the US would have a deeper talent pool to form our national teams in the future. I would love to see us really be a international powerhouse someday. That I can not deny.

Dont forget about the "Domino Championships" playing on Espn2 after the World Cup :com: wtf..........

Anyways, my take............
I have played both sports at a pretty high level (not pros :142smilie ) but understand the complexities of both games, hockey and soccer.

Very similar :scared, but different :sadwave: As is football, baseball, and basketball, which I have all played to lesser degrees.
Hockey is my #1 sport, and soccer is #2, but soccer has become closer to hockey as I have become older, mainly because the leagues are more organized for soccer as we got older. But this I know! You run your ass of in soccer most of the time, but you skate your ass of in hockey ALL the time :SIB I could go on and on why, but we will leave it at that for now :)

Franky

By the way, Im bummed for Edmonton, but congrats to all the Canes Fanes!

Moe we are completely on the same page & great point about the value of franshises.

I highly doubt most US sports fans could even grasp the fact that the Manchester United Soccer Club is worth more than mythical New York Yankees, in good US Dollars, British Pounds or Euro's no matter how you count it!
