Reminds me of a deputy sheriff in Pickaway Co., years ago he had a black 1970 Monte Carlo SS 454. Man you know it would fly had some trick stuff in it for back then. Another law enforcement officer in that area had a 63 Passenger body with a 409/425 in it. But he was not driving it much when I came along. It was black also.

The Chevy Rat motors dominated in those days in police cars the fastest blood run was in a 70 Impala with 454 in it not sure but think they were 390 hp versions.

The blood run I speak of was the way they got units of blood that were urgently needed from Columbus to Chillicothe. IF you were on US RT 23 you better get out of the road. Now of course they simply fly the patient to Columbus.

One deputy told the story of a call to his home one afternoon to block St Rt 104, (it ran N/S about 3 miles west of US 23).

He lived just off of Rt 23 on the airport road, he jumped in his 71 Fury cruiser, (yes that is right I said Fury, it was a Plymouth boat sized car with a gas sucking 440 4V V-8) fired it up and headed out cold. Now I don't know what the oil pan capacity was on those things but this deputy was doing what he was told to do. So he thought , but when he got within a half of a mile there were a couple of improtant parts in the crankcase that decided they didn't want to stay in the crankcase. You get the picture, and he coasted to within a hundred yards of the proposed road block just in time to see the car he was supposed to road block go flying by with a couple of flying tire salesmen behind it. No major loss to the local taxpayes as this bomb had well over 80K on it at the time. :D
