That is such a subhuman act, it is difficult to comprehend.

The Armenian genocide was one of the most massive "root-and-branch" exterminations ever carried out against a defenseless people. In 1915, as World War I raged, the Turkish government (ruler of the Ottoman Empire) decided upon the systematic extermination of most of the male Armenian population, and the forced deportation of the remainder, mostly women, children, and the elderly. The deportation became a death march, with extreme violence and deprivation leading to the death of most of the survivors of the initial gendercide -- as was intended. By the time the exhausted and traumatized survivors reached refuge in neighbouring countries, up to three-quarters of the entire Ottoman Armenian population had been exterminated.

Hitler is the most popular villain, but Stalin's regime was way worse. It is estimated Hitler was responsible for around 6 million deaths, and Stalin 20 million. But by far the worst ever is Mao Zedong. Strangely, he is also way less infamous than the other two.

Under Mao, it is estimated that around 60 million died from starvation and execution. in a period of 5 years, 45 million people died from famine caused in part by his policies. I have read a few books on this time period, and it is sickening.

Sadly, there are still so many of these types of conflicts going on in the world today that are virtually unknown. I am reading a book now about boy soldiers in Sierra Leone that happened 10 years ago, and it is one of the sickest things I have ever read. Unreal how people can treat other humans this way.

But still, I would say the Great Chinese Famine is the worst thing that has ever happened in human history.

Hitler's methodology... ie., pulling limbs from babies, snapping childrens necks in front of their mothers, sinister medical experiments on unanesthetized victims in my opinion have no equal in the modern world.

Most recently, I would say the Madoff scandal. It was a terrible thing that happened which destroyed many lives here and in other countries as well.

In the past 15 years, it would be 9/11. No contest on this one.

If you are to go back further in history, I'm sure we can find many more (i.e. Hitler, Slavery, Stalin, Chernobyl, etc.)

Your view point is so nationalistic and self-centered. Really...people losing money is one of the worst things that ever happened in history? "No contest" in the past 15 year to 9/11?

You need to realize that the world is bigger than America. Why don't you see what has been going on in the Congo where people were hunted like animals and eaten, where children and women are raped in mass, where children are kidnapped and forced to fight in wars. Or the war and genocide in Darfur, where it is estimated over 180,000 and over 1.8 million have been displaced from their homes, and 3.5 million are starving?

Really.... hard to feel sorry for people who lives are "ruined" by loss of money.

It is awful. Zedong also tortured and killed people directly. Also, when people are driven to starvation to the point where they kidnapped and ate their neighbor's children, it is a different kind of torture. They are both horrific.
