Just out of curiousity...since we aren't necessarily in the time of crusades where people used the veil of religion to murder...

How does organized religion negatively impact atheists? Why is the atheist movement so angry? Legitimate questions: What difference does it make if your neighbor is a hard-core Christian if you are an atheist?

How so? How do the religious affect your day-to-day life? Who has more intolerance towards the other: religious of the non-religious, or the non-religious of the religious. The latter.

I should have clarified- I understand the answer as given in this thread and I agree.

My question is more geared to the atheist movement in our country at present so perhaps another thread is a better place. I just don't get the hatred from that side...why not just ignore?

If it weren't based around religion it would be based around something else. I do agree. But do you guys think that by removing religion you'd remove the hate??? I don't. Hate is within human nature. Humans throughout history would have found another basis to hate on-

I'm not religious at all, but figure it's a "wash" as to how much good and bad it does and has done in the world. Most likely race would be the subject of "hatred" if there was no religion, as it is now anyways.
I figure there are 4 reasons why the people from civilized countries don't do wrong. In no particular order. 1. Public shame 2. Fear of retribution (mostly physical) 3. Fear of going to jail 4. Fear of going to Hell (not going to Heaven)
We've kind of lost Number 1 over the years, and while I don't necessarrily belief in Number 4 personally (losing ground also) , it helps keeps things in order.
