Definitely agree that the officiating is extremely inconsistent this year.
And yes there was absolutely no excuse for Illini not hitting those late free throws. But at least give OSU a little bit of credit; they shot 63 percent for the 2nd half! And it wasn't as if the Illinois defense just completely folded. In the last 3 minutes OSU had 2 contested 3s made from about 5 feet behind the arc and then there was the one-handed catch and shoot on the lob. Illinois shot 52 percent the first half, and 50 percent the 2nd half. That's pretty consistent.
Anyways, yes this is a down year for the Big Ten, but only in the sense that there are only 3 real quality teams when usually there are 6 or 7. But the 3 quality ones (Illinois, Mich St., and Wisconsin) are as good as any team that has come out of the Big Ten in the last 5-6 years (with the exception of the one year Mich St. won it all). I know that I hold the minority opinion, but I fully expect that all 3 of those teams will make the sweet sixteen; and I will guarantee that at least 2 of them will. Yeah, I know that my guarantee and $3.00 will get you a cup of coffee. I think, more than anything, that this conference has just been incredibly inconsisent all year. Iowa, Michigan, Purdue, and even Northwestern played really, really good games at different times this year. They all also had games where they looked like junior high teams. But it's not like this is the only conference where that's the case. Did you guys see the Kentucky/Florida game today? Taking nothing away from Kentucky, but that might have been the poorest effort I've seen from any team this year by Florida. Can you believe that team was ranked #1 this year.
OK, I'm rambling. And, yes I know I'm probably being overly defensive because my team won the Big Ten and I do like to think that that is something of an accomplishment.
