the suicide rate in Japan more likely has to do with job stress as they take work way to serious. They kill themselves working

I would venture to say mental illness in Japan is low because they have a much higher intelligence overall than other countrys. Especially America.

I don't think there is a great correlation b/w intellect and mental illness but I do know that drug addiction is a leading cause of mental illness and I have a feeling the US has many more addicts on a % basis than Japan.

Not going into a whole essay on this but in Japan there is a certain amount of honor that goes with suicide. You can look at the numbers. The difference there is if you have a loan with a bank and don't pay, they get to go after your relatives for the money. There is a direct correlation in suicides and failures financially. I'm not saying it's the only reason but it is a very high % of their suicides. It's the reason their rates of suicide got so high when their economy went down.

Again, hard to argue using different countries and cultures.

Well this sounds like a mental defect to me.

I don't think mental illness in Japan IS low, nor do I think they have much higher intelligence overall.
I would bet that mental illness in countries like Japan is so looked down upon, or stigmatized, that it often goes undiagnosed.

I get the reasoning for their suicides. But I still think killing yourself due to financial shame is a form of mental illness.

Maybe here it is, but in Japan it could be culture....

Absolutely, but those things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. Perhaps theirs is a culture that results in suicide at a higher rate than other developed countries. But I would still bet those that actually go through with it are the one's more prone to mental illness.

Similarly you could argue violence and murder is part of American "Culture" (relative to other developed countries). But that doesn't mean that mental illness has not been the cause of a lot of murders in the US.

You guys are ridiculous. You're actually trying to find any correlation with anything other than the fucking guns to explain away what common sense and Australia have already proven. It's not the culture, it's the guns. It's not the percentage of mentally ill people being higher or lower or any of that crap, they have millions more people so even if our percentage is 20% and there's is 12% they STILL HAVE MORE CRAZY PEOPLE THERE!
It's not because "people kill people", it's the fucking guns in the hands of people that think it's okay to shoot someone for no reason that kill people.

Mental illness and Japanese culture, holy shit that's funny, ignorant but funny.

I suppose mental illness is less in Norway, Sweden, Russia, Iceland, Greenland, Wales, Ireland, Myanmar, Mozambique, Italy, France, Germany, New Zealand, Canada, and every other country in the world that restrict gun ownership and that's just no possible way that the restrictions on guns could possibly have anything to do with it. Nope, no way. Dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard.

And I own more guns than most, but I don't deny the common sense obvious answers to such things simply because I want my way.

Hope this helps,

I know right. Cars don't cause auto accidents people do, but if there were no cars, would we still have auto accidents?
How many citizens died from leprosy in the u.s.? Let's see, it's been eliminated so none, hmmmmmm. So basically, every other fucking thing known to man that has been involved in high numbers of death, and since been removed or eliminated from society, sees the number of deaths drastically reduced or eliminated completely. ......except for guns. That's the one abomination or anomaly huh?

I will say this, ignorance kills people, I just wish it were more consistent

Brilliant. No guns No gun deaths. So much common sense. Only problem 300 million guns in the good ole USA. Are you going to be the first one to turn yours in?

Are you saying we aren't as smart as all the other countries that once had guns and then instituted a ban?

Removal of all guns is unfeasible, but if we know that Less guns = less gun violence, then why not restrict guns?

Convicted felon? Lose gun ownership privilege for life with harsh mandatory sentences for offenders.

Convicted of another misdemeanor? Lose privilege for 5 years
With same harsh sentencing for offenders.

Also, all gun related sentences need to be stepped up. Armed robbery with gun? Life in prison. Attempted murder with gun? Life in prison. 2nd degree murder...death 1st degree murder. ....death. Rape with gun....death.
