Indy 500

Well boys and girls, the big Ed is off to the Indy 500 this weekend. Not a car racing fan by any stretch of the imagination, but was offered a free ticket ($95.00) by a neighbor and decided to go so that I can say I went to the 500.

I have no idea who would pay that kinda money to see blur's go by, but what the hay. With my luck, Al Queda will set off a dirty bomb in the grandstands while yours truly is enjoying his fourth Aspen Edge and gawking at the buxom Sally Sue Jones from Milan, Indiana in her tank top and cut-off bluejean shorts.

I hope you all have a nice Memorial Day weekend. I will issue a full report on my return (if any) from the race.

I can't imagine sitting through something like this, but if I had to go to a race I would rather see the Indy 500 than watch the rednecks go round, enjoy.

the real fun is on Carb day, and the night before the race. I drove by the track today, and it was pretty crazy for a Friday. Go to the infield and you will see everything and anything

Seriously, watching the 'necks is a whole lot more fun. What's really fun is not these huge Indy car or NASCAR events, but the local dirt track or circle track and the figure 8 races and all the dynamics and people involved. I guarantee I could take u to a Friday night at Beech Bend and u would have a blast.

Well,

I'm back from the pits. Very interesting. Walking past the coke parking lot (I think) reminded me of the good old days walking through the infield at the derby. Ahhhh the fresh aroma of stale beer, burnt out campfires, and other assorted repugnant odors made me yearn for my college days.

Prior to going to this race, some have described it to me as a hillbilly drunk fest. I could see remnants of that from those that partyied at and near the track the night before the race. Didn't see a whole lot of Kerry voters.

As far as the race itself, the one aspect of the event that I definitely underestimated was the noise. It was loud. I mean it was real loud. Some kind souls were passing out ear plugs which myself and little Eddie gladly accepted.

Initially, we were in the grandstands between the fourth turn and the first turn across from pit row (thats racing lingo for the area where the cars have the oil and air in their tires checked as well as having there windshields cleaned by all these men dressed similarly which reminded me of the old Texaco commericials with that guy who wears a star).

After the first intra-race rain delay, we were able to worm our way into one of the suites. That was nice. Cold beer, warm food, television, ac and significantly less noise. We hung out there for the rest of the race. Saw a crash right in front of us.

All in all a good day. Tara made it home fine although as we were walking out of the grandstands the pa announcer was rather frantic in telling everyone to get out right away as a tornado was heading for the track.

Taoist. Saw Heather in the aformentioned coke parking lot while walking into the race. She appeared passed out leaning against the front right tire of a slightly rusted 1982 Ford pick-up bearing Mississippi plates. Her eyes were shut as she was drooling from the left corner of her mouth onto her "Do Me" tee shirt.

I would have said hello however, I did not want to awaken her as her appearance, condition and demeanor suggested the possibility of projectile vomiting if she experienced a sudden awakening from her apparent stuphor.

Was nice to see a American born racer win. That's the first in 5 or 6 years.
