1. Slow down the Colts' offense: Indianapolis is operating at an extremely high level on offense. Against the Jets, WRs Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie combined for 274 yards, while Peyton Manning threw for 377. Reggie Wayne is one of the best wide receivers in the game and has a fantastic symmetry with Manning. The vastly underrated Jabari Greer held Sidney Rice to only 43 receiving yards and is the Saints' best cover man in a good secondary, but the Colts are just dripping with firepower in their precision attack. TE Visanthe Shiancoe gave the Saints serious problems in the second half, which makes you wonder what Dallas Clark might do. Adrian Peterson had three touchdowns and ran for 122 yards, and the Saints' run defense is a problem area. But while the Colts use their running game effectively, they win with Manning's right arm. Going against Manning is a daunting endeavor, but the Saints have beaten Kurt Warner and Brett Favre in back-to-back playoff games.

I completely agree with Colts ML. I see places where ML is equal or less. If your going to lay 205 lay the 220!! -2 1/2 -205 is a terrible (but winning) bet!!

Wayne tweaks knee, leaves Colts practice early

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP)
Reggie Wayne gave the Indianapolis Colts quite a scare Friday when he pulled up short on a pass route.

He's still expected to play in Sunday's Super Bowl.

The four-time Pro Bowl receiver left practice 20 minutes early after aggravating an injured right knee.

Coach Jim Caldwell said Wayne hurt the soft tissue below his kneecap. Wayne is listed as probable and Caldwell plans on him playing against New Orleans. Wayne got through the injury most of the season.

But the Colts still don't have an answer on All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney. He hasn't practiced since tearing a ligament in his right ankle during the AFC title game.

Freeney wanted to test the ankle Friday and he still could. Caldwell said Freeney might do some running or participate in a simulated practice later in the day. Freeney hopes to work out Saturday and is listed as questionable.

Earlier Friday, Caldwell said Freeney's recovery was "trending in the right direction," a message he reiterated after the workout at the Miami Dolphins' team complex.

"This is right in line with our plans," Caldwell said. "He's making very good progress.

The Colts got good news on two other starters.

Left guard Ryan Lilja returned to practice after missing Thursday's workout with a sore back. He is listed as probable.

Starting cornerback Jerraud Powers practiced for the first time since hurting his left foot against Baltimore on Jan. 16. Before practice, Caldwell announced that Powers had undergone surgery to repair a fracture. He also is questionable for the Saints game.

Indy has one more workout scheduled, a 40-minute walkthrough Saturday at noon, and Caldwell liked what he saw.

"These practices were right in line with what we've done all year, and we're pleased," he said. "Things have worked out great for us here."

Mind Freak

Got to admit the Colts are doing a much better job of casting this injury doubt than the Saints.

The Saints are thinking Wayne and Freeney will not play :142smilie :142smilie

in the fawking Super Bowl :142smilie

Are you sure you don't want to play N.O. now? Everybody else is changing their bet you may as well join them.

I feel alot better about the Colts now since everyone is jumping on the N.O. band wagon. We shall see.

"If the Colts are to win, obviously the No. 1 thing they've got to handle is the Saints blitz, because New Orleans caused a lot of problems for both us and the Vikings. But some of those problems came because of the Saints having an advantage in their dome with the noise, and being able to get the quick break off the snap. I would expect some of their advantage is going to be equalized by the neutral field.

"In the Colts favor is the fact their offensive line does a great job with identifying and picking up the blitz, and nobody in the NFL does a better job than Peyton Manning of communicating to his offensive line and getting the protection shifted toward wherever he reads the pressure coming from. I see Peyton, as usual, being able to get the ball out before the rush reaches him, and the Saints won't have as much success getting to him as they had in the first two games of the playoffs against Kurt Warner and Brett Favre.

"What New Orleans has been able to do so far is bring that one extra guy -- either a linebacker or a safety -- and really create havoc with their pass rush. It's going to come down to the Colts being able to hold that extra guy off long enough to get the pass off, and let Manning hurt them for bringing the blitz. But that's exactly what he's done so well against both the Ravens and the Jets, two teams that play the same type of blitzing, aggressive defense as the Saints.

"I also think Indy can run on New Orleans, especially when the Colts go to their three-receiver sets or when they flex tight end Dallas Clark out wide like they like to do. That's going to spread the Saints defense out, and that's going to put the onus on the New Orleans run defense, which isn't real good. It's going to be a challenge for the Saints to stop the Colts from running the ball if Indy spreads them out.

"Indy's defense will struggle at times against Drew Brees. I'm not sure where the Colts pass defense ranks, but defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis are not going to get the quick get-off on a grass field, especially if it rains at all, that they usually do at home on turf. That's going to neutralize some of the Colts' pass rush, and help the Saints passing game. Brees is one of the best at getting the ball out quick, and the Saints' receivers do a nice job of catching the ball in tight coverage. The Colts' secondary has to have the ability to stay in coverage on those quick throws that Brees likes, and make the plays on those back-shoulder throws he's so good at. Indy has to at least play it tight after the catch, and limit the Saints' YAC.

"For the Saints to win, they've got to really maximize every scoring opportunity they get. Indy is going to move the ball and score some points against New Orleans. That's a given. What New Orleans has to do is contain the Colts' offense enough to keep themselves in the game, and score points almost every time they have the chance to. They can't leave a lot of points on the field against the Colts.

"What it's really going to come down to is if Indy's defense can put together the same type of effort the Vikings' defense did in the NFC title game. If they do, the Saints will struggle. The same type of effort as New Orleans' offense had against Minnesota won't get it done. I know the Saints can score against Colts, but I'm not sure they'll score enough to match points with Indy for four quarters.

"The Saints' offense likes to start with those swing passes and the shorter stuff, and then take their shots with the vertical passing game after the shorter passes open things up. New Orleans likes to take its regular people [starting skill players] and get creative with them in order to create difficult matchups for you. They move Reggie Bush and Jeremy Shockey out wide, and they can win a lot of matchups that way.

I would hate to put my trust in Shockey to be a factor in this game. He is no count in my book.

And finally, a quote from Colts legendary offensive line coach Howard Mudd. He has been coaching offensive lines in the NFL since 1974, and has seen everything, coached every kind of player, had every kind of success. If you can follow the scheme of this quote, I suspect you too could be an offensive line coach:

"You have to be willing to throw the ball in the dirt and go punt if you have to. That is a characteristic, if you can't get them all blocked, you have to be able to do that. If you stand there and hold it that is when people have the most problems with that team is when they have unblocked guys. Maybe the quarterback thought he was going to be blocked or they have them all blocked and they aren't. You can see play after play with other teams. Not all other teams, but in situations they get caught without knowing who wasn't blocked and they raise havoc. In a different, but similar way, that sounds contradictory, but it is not."

I think your good to 10. I am bias though. One thing about the Colts D they bend but don't break.

Colts D faced only 2 good offenses in the past 3 months (and both with Freeney at full speed). They allowed 28.5 ppg in those games vs New England and Houston. I am liking the Saints more as we approach gametime.

And who have the Saints stopped? Our D is constantly trashed but somehow we keep winning. Nothing changes for the Colts. I would even bet that we establish some type of running game as well to melt the clock. This D is alot better than many let on to be. We shall see in about 19 hours.

Colts D gave up 20pts or more 5 times and 2 of them didn't matter.

Saints D gave up 20pts or more 13 times and I will say 1 of them didn't matter.

I think someone is in very big surprise come tomorrow. Like I said we bend but don't break. The D is alot better than many think. If N.O. can torch it then hats off to them. With or without Freeney.
