The New England Patriots visit the Cincinnati Bengals tonight in a game that currently has the Bengals favored by two points. The pointspread has moved by as many as five points from the opening number at several online sportsbooks.
Below is the timeline of the spread moves.
Aug 4 - 9:30 a.m. (All times are Eastern), Patriots open as 2-point favorites
Books set the defending champion New England Patriots as 2-point favorites for tonight`s preseason game versus the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati. The Pats are favored despite the Bengals beating them 31-3 last preseason.
AUg 4 - 12:00 p.m., Patriots are 1-point favorites
Bill Belichek complains of problems his team is having during the first days of training camp, especially with their passing game. The passing game has yet to show any consistency and has looked out of rhythm so far.
Tom Brady sat out of practice the night before but looked rusty showing frustration at his inability to connect on some passes. Brady, who tinkered with his delivery in the offseason to quicken his release, was picked off twice by Tyrone Poole while running a two-minute drill during the session.
?I`m missing some open receivers down the field. I would like to think I could hit some of those. I end up with a few sleepless nights in there,? Brady told cbssportsline.com.
Aug 6 - 4:00 p.m. - Patriots are a pick `em
The Bengals offense continues to improve, most notably Chad Johnson.
Carson Palmer?s favorite target dazzles with nine catches for 134 yards in afternoon drills. Johnson has touchdowns of 43-yards and 20-yards showing dramatic improvement in an area that needed addressing in the offseason: yards after the catch.
?It?s all (receivers coach) Hue Jackson,? Johnson told bengals.com. ?Getting fast with the catch. That?s Hue?s famous motto. Get fast as soon as it touches your hand and that?s what I?ve been doing.?
Aug 6 - 8:00 p.m. - Bengals are 1-point favorites
The Bengals defense looks impressive counting six sacks and four near-interceptions in scrimmage. The performance still wasn?t enough to impress new defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan.
?I?m challenging the veterans to take over the leadership of the defense,? said Bresnahan. ?Our veterans need to say, `Listen, we?ve got a chance to be good,` but (not) if we?re sloppy in our techniques, we don?t know our assignments, and we make mental mistakes, if we don?t tackle well and we don?t pursue to the ball.?
The Bengals dynamoc duo Johnson and Palmer look good in camp with some observers saying the two appear to be in midseason form.
?It can only get better,? says Palmer. ?It?s early. We haven?t even played a game yet.?
Aug 9 - 1:30 p.m. - Bengals are 2-point favorites
The Patriots offense struggles against the secondary.
Backup quarterback Rohan Davey had one impressive completion to Deion Branch but followed that up with an interception to Ellis Hobbs and a near pick to Duane Starks.
Third-stringer Matt Cassell had his struggles but looked better overall. Cassell had several completions, including a couple during an impressive two-minute drill, but ended up throwing a pair of interceptions to end the session.
Aug 10 - 11:00 a.m. - Bengals are 2 ?-point favorites
The Bengals offense is generating excitement in Cincinnati, scoring each time in a goal line drill Tuesday afternoon.
Running back Quincy Wilson scored on a running play while tight end Matt Schobel had two touchdown grabs to atone for dropping one in Saturday?s mock game.
?It was nice to make those plays today, but I?m confident in my catching ability. I?m always pretty well focused,? said Schobel.
The Bengals are currently 2-point favorites with the total set at 37 ?-points.
