ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Blues winger Keith Tkachuk will be out four-to-six weeks with a broken left foot.

Blues general manager Larry Pleau said Friday that Tkachuk won't need surgery, just time to heal.

Tkachuk was injured in the third period of Wednesday night's 7-0 victory over Nashville, when a puck hit his foot. He limped off the ice but returned for a few shifts.

After the game, Tkachuk's wife gave birth to the couple's third child, a girl. That delayed an MRI for Tkachuk until Thursday, when the fracture was discovered.

Tkachuk had a team-high 38 goals last season, his first full year with the team, and he finished second in points with 75. He had four goals and four assists this season as the Blues started 6-1-1, the second-best start in franchise history.

Last month, Tkachuk agreed to a guaranteed four-year deal worth $40 million, with a club option for a fifth year that would add another $5 million to the deal.

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 1, 2002) ? Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Eastern Conference Champion Carolina Hurricanes, announced today the team has acquired left wing Jan Hlavac and center Harold Druken from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Marek Malik and left wing Darren Langdon.

?The acquisition of these two skilled players will strengthen our forwards,? Rutherford said. ?This gives us more upside to our offense.?

Hlavac (6?0??, 200 lbs.) is currently in his fourth NHL season and has tallied 139 points (64g, 75a) in 232 career games with Vancouver, Philadelphia and the New York Rangers. He tallied 31 points (16g, 15a) in 77 games last season with Philadelphia and Vancouver. A native of Prague, Cze., Hlavac was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the second round (28th overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He established career highs in goals (28), assists (36), points (64) and games played (79) during the 2000-01 season with the New York Rangers, his second season in the NHL. Hlavac, 26, has two points (1g, 1a) in nine games this season for Vancouver.

Druken (6?0", 200 lbs.) is in his fourth NHL season and has scored 56 points (27g, 29a) in 118 career games with Vancouver. A second round pick of the Canucks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Druken, 23, split last season between Vancouver and Manitoba of the American Hockey League (AHL). He tallied eight points (4g, 4a) in 27 games with Vancouver. The St. John?s, Nfld., native had two points (1g, 1a) in three games with the Canucks this season.

Langdon played 58 games for Carolina this past season and led the Hurricanes with 106 penalty minutes. He was acquired by Carolina on Aug. 4, 2000 along with forward Rob DiMaio from the Rangers for forward Sandy McCarthy and a fourth-round draft pick in 2001. In 121 games with Carolina, Langdon had two goals, three assists and 216 penalty minutes. In 398 NHL games over nine seasons, Langdon has 16 goals, 18 assists and 951 penalty minutes.

Malik was the franchise?s second pick (72nd overall) in the third round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. He has 77 points (17g, 60a) in 317 career games in the NHL.

?The depth that we have in certain roles gives us the opportunity to make this trade,? Rutherford said. ?We appreciate the contributions that Darren and Marek made to our organization.?

The Carolina Hurricanes host the Montreal Canadiens tonight at 7 p.m. at the RBC Center. None of the players involved in today?s trade will be available for tonight?s game.

Concerned because Henrik Tallinder injured his shoulder last night in Calgary. Lindy was waiting to hear from trainer Jim Pizzutelli about whether Henrik would be able to play this evening. Lindy was not optimistic.

Ruff is also concerned about Tim Connolly. ?Tim spent the night in the hospital,? he said. ?He started to experience chest pains and they took him there at two this morning. They gave him an EKG and other tests. Nothing showed up. I think they said it was an air bubble behind the ribs. But he didn?t get back to the hotel until five this morning.

?I?m frustrated,? Lindy continued. ?The team?s frustrated. Yes, I like the way we have skated, the way we have moved the puck down the ice, the way we have passed the puck but we?re losing. We?re not scoring. The power play??

Ruff has not decided on his line-up for this evening. ?I told all the players that everyone would dress for warm-ups?that we would decide at that time.?

Lindy did say that Mika Noronen would start in goal. Lindy also left the impression that he might re-vamp the lines.

Game time tonight is 9PM EST.
