Dan Hinote hopes to play his first game of the season tonight, according to the Denver Post. Hinote has been recovering from a broken leg and shoulder surgery. vs vancouver

Adam Deadmarsh will probably miss tonight's game because of the wrist injury he suffered on Sunday, according to the LA Times. Deadmarsh aggravated the injury on Tuesday and tried to play wearing a brace on Wednesday but lasted less than eight minutes.

The LA Times reports that Ziggy Palffy is expected to return to action tonight after missing six out of seven games with a strained left groin.


The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Shean Donovan was forced out of Wednesday's game after his fourth shift because of a bruised knee. He will be evaluated today

Jason Arnott returned to action on Wednesday night but didn't play his usual center position. Instead, Arnott played left wing on a line with Pierre Turgeon and Scott Young. It's not clear if the Stars will continue to go with that line.


The Islanders have been so unhappy with Chris Osgood that they decided to start backup Garth Snow against the Hurricanes on Wednesday even though he'd played the night before and struggled earlier this season against Carolina, according to the Raleigh News-Observer. Osgood has a 4.39 goals-against average and a horrendous .786 save percentage so far.

Vitali Yachmenev suffered a broken right hand in Wednesday night's game. He is expected to be re-evaluated today.

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Wild traded left wing Sylvain Blouin to the Montreal Canadiens Thursday in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The 28-year-old Blouin appeared in two games with the Wild this season and recorded four penalty minutes. He has played in 86 games over his NHL career and has three goals and four assists with 293 penalty minutes. Blouin was selected by the Wild from Montreal in the 2000 NHL Waiver Draft.

It is warming up here in Calgary but slowly. Today is another beautiful day with the sun shining and the air clear. To the west of the city, the long bank of the snow capped Rocky Mountains stretch to infinity. They are less than an hour away. They beckon. Here in Calgary the prairies end or start depending in which direction you happen to be facing.

Tonight features another match-up of two teams desperate for victories.

The Calgary Flames haven?t won a game at home. They have won just once in their last five games. The Flames are familiar with overtime; their last three games have reached that extra period. Calgary is well rested. They haven?t played since Saturday.

Lindy Ruff said an hour ago that he would make one change tonight. Rob Ray will play and Eric Boulton, leading the league in penalty minutes with 62, will sit this one out.

Martin Biron will start in goal.

I suspect that Mika Noronen will play tomorrow night in Edmonton. But I only suspect that; it has not been confirmed by Lindy Ruff.

The Sabres lead the NHL in average penalty minutes per game. Buffalo averages 27.8 penalty minutes per game. They must be more disciplined.
