New Mexico leading scorer Cullen Neal may be out awhile after suffering an ankle/foot injury during the Lobos' Puerto Rico Tip-Off first-round loss to Boston College, coach Craig Neal said of his son early Friday.
Cullen Neal, who scored 26 and 23 points, respectively, in the Lobos' first two wins, played 23 minutes against the Eagles, scoring just two points prior to the injury.
"It's going to be awhile,'' Neal said. "There's no major break, but there is only an X-ray down here. He needs a bone scan and MRI. The concern is that he has pain on the top of the bone. It's not good. He may have a hairline fracture or ligament damage, but we won't know for sure until we get home.''
Neal, who averaged seven points a game last season as a freshman, was expecting to be the Lobos' top playmaker and scorer this season. A year ago, he battled injuries and illnesses before being a key member of the NCAA-bound Lobos.
New Mexico will play George Mason at 7 p.m. ET Friday in the consolation round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Classic.
