Interesting article on Wal-Mart

I remember that there are a few people here that love to loathe Wal-Mart. Personally, I've never understood it.

I refuse to go there on a weekend, but the bad press they get is, in my opinion, an exagerated load of crap.

But, of course, people love being angry at something successful so the sheep jump on board.

I think a lot of it started with how they treat their supply base.

The author can tell me how happy everyone is to be a WalMart employee, but I have good reason to believe that these people would be much happier with medical insurance.

So? The employees are free to seek employment elsewhere with a better compensation package. I'm sure they would each be happier with a company vehicle as well, but why is this the employer's problem?

Ill pay a bit more at Super Target.. Its cleaner, their supermarket selections are much better... and best of all you can avoid the trashy people that Walmart is flooded with on a 24 hr basis..

Super Target is much nicer a store but if you compare prices............Walmart is significantly lower usually 30% or more.

I didn't read the article, but isn't America great. People have the choice to shop at what stores they want, and work at what businesses they so choose. The big gripe people have about Wal-Mart is that they bully their suppliers around. The reply I have to that is, don't supply Wal-Mart if you don't like how they beat you down on prices. Everyone has choices out there to do one thing or another, that's why America is so great.:mj06:

Walmart really sux.. Its so trashy. Most of them I have been in I feel like i need a shower when I leave..

Plus they have no fresh meat or fish. Hire a phucking butcher for gods sake.

Not to mention they have 50 registers and only 4 of them open..

Makes me nuts.. you can keep your 30%:sadwave:

This is not true for all Wal-Marts. The newer ones have very high quality meat departments. I don't know about fish.

We don't shop at Wal-Mart often because we prefer Costco.

My main point is how everyone tries to make Wal-Mart a villian. (not saying that anyone in this thread has... yet)

I found it most interesting that the main websites who are quoted when bashing Wal-Mart are owned by Union groups who would have HUGE financial rewards by getting Wal-Mart employees to unionize. SHADY!

My sister works for Wal-Mart.
She dropped out of school, married a slob and started pumping out kids when she was 19. Real smart.
All was well until the slob gets caught smoking dope on the job and gets canned. Now he can't get another job and they're screwed.
Sister gets an entry level job at Wal-Mart and works all the hours they can throw at her. After a year or so, her boss notices that she works hard and doesn't gripe. He pulls her aside and says, basically, "Look, I'm promoting you to management. It's going to suck for the first 2 years. You're going to work crazy hours, holidays, etc. After that, you're tenured"
Fast forward ten years...now with no college education or prior skills, she runs a store of her own, makes great money and has job security in any economy. Yeah, the insurance blows but that company is providing A LOT of people with a shot that they may not have otherwise have had.
Just my 2 cents.

He does landscaping now. Nice guy, really, but he threw his family under the bus big time with that move. They live in BFE so he couldn't find work for quite a while. That Wal-Mart gig kept them off welfare.

I'm still not clear on what you offer this site.

Interestingly enough, you remind me of a French kid who is married to a friend of mine. Like you, he constantly bashes the USA and its citizens in the presence of Americans. It makes for uncomfortable situations in otherwise enjoyable social settings. His wife insists that self-loathing due to lack of sexual prowess is behind his odd behavior.

Lets see. Lets take a mom and pop tire shop that has been in the neighborhood forever. Walmart comes in and sells their tires for a loss knowing they can make the money on other products. The mom and pop shop now goes out of bussiness and the family is a wreck. Walmart see's this shop is finished and raises their tire prices back up. I'll shop somewhere else. Plus tax payers pay a portion of their workers health insurance because they are to greedy to pay it themselves.

Maybe you didn't hear yet, but Jack just got $280 worth of steak for JUST $135.... That happened here..in the states. if you're not jealous of that, you damn well should be!
