I found this interesting about new coaches. Take a look at the success of these teams who did "not" hire their 1st choice at head coach. For all fans of teams who didn't get their 1st choice for head coach, take a look at these teams who also didn't get their 1st choice either.
Carroll at USC was the 3rd or even 4th choice. Many SC fans were pissed about the hire.
I think Stoops was OU's 3rd choice.
Ferentz was not Iowa's first choice.
I think Larry Coker was Miami's 4th choice.
Jim Tressell wasn't OSU's first choise. I think he was OSU's 3rd choice.
Funny thing is with the exception of Ferentz, those four coaches, along with Carroll have won national championships. IMO Ferentz is top 5 HC in the country. While the coaches who rejected these schools for "better" jobs or staying at their current job are still muddling along at 2nd tier powers. Funny how things turned out.
