Iona +3 over Rider
This are important MAAC league games so early in the season.Tough game to capp.Iona w/o any doubt has more talent.But if that was the case this would be an easy job.
Rider is 3-1 beating Brown,Quinnipiac,and Dartmouth.Lost to Hawaii-Hilo.Iona is 2-2 beating Vermont & Loy Md and losing to G. Mason and VCU.
Iona has 5 guys that avg in double d's.Smith,Williams,Burtt,Jenkins,and Solivar avg 14,12,11,11,and 10.McCullough avg 5 but has 18 assits.But Williams and Smith have 15 and 14 assits. You might say,wow,thats an unselfish team but a lot of those assits are fastbreak,transition plays.DeShaun formerly of the Cuse might be talented but is causing the same problems he had up there.He's shooting 9-32 tre's and 17-56 fg's.
Thats taken away from Solivar and Burtt.Jenkins inside is ok but not a scorer.Big left handed kid with a soft touch near the basket.
Ruland has no control of this team.He is not a good bench coach,never was.A great recruiter that gets talent every yr.
Rider has Johnson the 2nd or 3rd best player in the conf.He's avg 18 pts a game but shooting 10-26 from the 3.Young,Muniz,Castlebury are all pretty solid avg 11,9,and 8.Munix is 6'7 and Castleburry is 7'0.Throw in Thomson and that a pretty big frontline.Rider has some 3 pt shooters P.Johnson and Taylor can also hit the 3.Rider has 5 players that can stick the 3.Iona has 4.
Iona is quicker and better gds.Rider's frontline is much bigger,slower though but has Johnson to stir the straw.
If Iona shows up and plays its "A" game and Rider plays its "A" game Iona wins.But Iona is just to wild and inconsistent.Harnum is a good coach and does make adjustments.
Lyr they split.Iona won at home 68-56 and lost on the road 69-58.Rider is a terrible FT shooting team and lyr 2-8 ats home.Iona is 4-7 ats away.
I have the game at Rider -2 in my system.So I'm getting 1 extra pt.I'll take Iona +3 in a small play.
Either team could win.To close to call.

Should never bet on a Ruland team when at the time outs the players are talking to each other on what they are going to do.And the 3 coaches are conferring a few feet away.Buzzer goes off and they forgot it was a 30 second time out.Saw it live and in person. GL
