I know this is probably a very unpopular pick but I think these guys can make some noise in the tourney. Why? It's simple... although they are not the most talented or athletic team in the country they work their asses off for 40 minutes every game. They play solid, hard-nosed defense and can actually make layups and free throws (novel concept in college ball, I know). I don't think them winning the Big-10 tourney was a fluke. I think they are a team in every sense of the word. I also think the trifecta of Brunner, Horner and Haluska is one of the best in all of college basketball. I know a lot of people would probably think I'm crazy but I love watching these guys play. It's nice to see a team who actually plays with fundamentals. You don't see that too much anymore these days...

Their is currently something to be said for a team
that possesses fundamental skills, but like you
stated also out works the opposition. It's quite
often not pretty, but Iowa gets the job done.

:iagree:

GL throughout tourney Glenn, you got any
leans right now?

They do? For me fundamentals isn't limited to playing defense. It means being able to make free throws and layups, and moving without the ball on offense, and knowing how to protect the ball on offense. They are a good defensive team, I've never denied that, but they are an absolute trainwreck on offense.

What's up Seeker? I haven't looked at Thursday's game too much yet. As for the whole tourney goes a couple of teams I really like are 'Nova and UCLA. You?

interestingly enough:

iowa and washington state shoot exactly the same % from the field

they shoot exactly the same % from 3pt range

washington state shoots 1% better from the line

and washington state takes better care of the basketball by about 1 turnover per game.

so i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Well I guess I stand corrected. You're right though, Wazzu makes it look a helluva lot more ugly. Lemme guess, you were the captain of the debate team in high school right? :mj07:

Iowa has 3 great whiteguys and 1 of them is going bald and 50 years old :mj07: :mj07:

Good luck with the Hawkeyes and I think they might pull a surprise also.

I thought you were getting married for a second there last night, until you saw Lois' knockers getting wet .....Giggity :142smilie

Yeah, they have Al Bundy playing for them don't they? :mj07:

I'm lucky I have Peter to bail my ass out don't I? I really don't know what I was thinking. But she was a maid after all. I've always had a thing for maids!

trust me, i dont enjoy watching washington state play. but i respect what bennett has done there in his short time in pullman. ultimately, it all comes down to winning. people can put up with some ugly offensive numbers as long as it translates to winning. iowa has won some real grinders this year. and youre right, they definitely do things the right way. on the other side of the country, thats what wazzou is trying to do but they dont have a horner or a haluska to give the ball to. but the fact that wazzou has given arizona all kinds of trouble over the last 2 years as well as having swept washington this year speaks for itself. they also beat san diego state on the road. again, its ugly basketball. and often an aesthetic nightmare. but the cougs were competitive in most every game and bennett deserves credit for his coaching. but back to your original point, you are correct. iowa has the pieces in place to be a very tough out in the next few weeks.

Good points. I don't have anything against Bennett. I've always said he just didn't have enough talent there at Pullman to make a big run. While his style of ball is aggravating to watch, it was probably the smartest approach considering they were always outmanned. And as anyone who has ever been to Pullman knows (I've had the honor of visiting quite a few times), it's hard to convince ANY athlete, let alone a top-notch athlete, to come there to play ball. It's a tiny little town that consists of nothing but wheat fields. I'm not even joking when I say that. That's why Wazzu is such a party school. There's nothing to do there but drink.

One big concern for the Hakws--zero bench-don't go very deep and when you play the better teams they have benches--it will catch up with them.
