Iowa State (14-12) at Texas Tech (14-11)
GAME NOTES: Pat Knight leads his Texas Tech Red Raiders into today's home clash with Big 12 foe Iowa State. The Cyclones have been idle since last Saturday when they posted a 60-52 decision over Nebraska. That victory halted a four- game slide for ISU, which carries a 4-7 conference record and a 1-7 mark in true road games into this afternoon's tilt. As for Texas Tech, it has won two of its last three games to move to 5-6 in conference and 14-11 overall. The Red Raiders are fresh off Wednesday's 87-69 triumph at Colorado, and they now return home where they are 11-2 thus far. Iowa State owns an 8-7 lead in the all-time series with Texas Tech, but the Red Raiders have won six of the last seven meetings, including three in a row in Lubbock.
Jiri Hubalek has started all 26 games for Iowa State this season, and he is scoring 13.1 ppg to go along with 7.2 rpg. Wesley Johnson adds 13.0 ppg to the mix, and Craig Brackins checks in with 10.9 ppg. The Cyclones are netting 64.4 ppg while limiting opponents to 64.2 ppg on 40.7 percent shooting from the floor. In the much-needed win over Nebraska last time out, Hubalek and Sean Haluska scored 12 points apiece. Rahshon Clark pitched in 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Cyclones, who connected on 58.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half, including a 5-of-8 performance from three-point range. That effort helped the club overcome a 4-of-21 showing from the field in the first half.
Coach Knight depends on Martin Zeno to be productive at the offensive end, and he has certainly done so thus far. Zeno leads his team with 16.0 ppg, and Alan Voskuil is second with 13.1 ppg. As for John Roberson, he rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with 12.5 ppg. Despite struggling a bit in the rebounding department, Texas Tech is still averaging 70.3 ppg while limiting the opposition to 65.4 ppg. Roberson and Voskuil both scored 20 points in the blowout win over Colorado on Wednesday. Zeno nailed all five of his field goal attempts en route to 14 points, and Damir Suljagic pitched in 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Red Raiders connected on a staggering 61.8 percent of their field goal attempts in the clash, including a 7-of-12 showing from three-point range.
Give a nod to the Red Raiders today, as they will even their Big 12 record with a victory. Another balanced offensive effort is likely.
