This thing is incredible. I just heard one of the testers from the Wall Street Journal on CNBC, and he was creaming on himself about this product.

4 gig for $249 (2 GB for $199), and it is smaller than a credit card! He said in his test the battery lasted for over 14 hours!

We just bought all of the sales department (myself included ;)) Nanos for having a great quarter. This thing is really incredible. I have wanted an ipod for audiobooks for a while now. I guess I have to stay on the treadmill longer in the mornings now!

That guy was probably creaming himself but for about the same money, you can find a Ipod mini with more storage abilities and just a slightly larger frame. Any way you look at it, all Ipods are small. I'm going to have to do a lot of thinking to get myself to buy one of these. :)

Ipod Nano 4gb -- $250
Ipod Mini 6gb -- $250 (on ebay--buy it now)

There is quite a bit of size difference in the mini and nano. This is probably the first technology that I have ever been an early adopter on besides the bag cellular phone I bought when I was 16. :mj07:

The Nano has some minor features that the mini doesn't have (as far as I know) such as color and photos. I think if you are looking at something for more space, you would have to just go to the full Ipod for the 40-60 gb (I think it might be more than this now) for a slightly higher price.

My experience has been good with it. My business partner's screen went out, though. He is getting it replaced but it is on back-order right now.

If your daughter and step-son are young, I would be a little weary because this thing is so tiny. I am cautious of how it would stnad up to the daily grind being in the front pocket of jeans, and I can't imagine it being thrown in the back pocket. I may be wrong, and it may be much more durable than I am giving credit for.

The battery life is reallly good. I have driven from Nashville to Atlanta, stayed for a couple of days with limited use, and drove back (drive time = Ipod on), and I never recharged the battery until I got back home.

Overall, I am pleased with the product.

Necessary accessories:

--A holder designed for the Nano
--Either a tape or radio signal converter for driving

Thanks Dawgball........my step-son is 19 and my daugther is 15. I hope they know not to beat on it but I'm sure it could easily get dropped and that sort of thing. One of my biggest concerns actually is how easily it could get stolen. I guess that could be the case with any MP3 player though since they are all pretty little.

Does the song capacity seem like enough? I would go with the 4G which I think holds around 1000 songs.....That sounds like alot to me but I'm not a teenager. I'm sure they could fill it up in no time. I could get a 20G Dell Jukebox which is slightly bigger than the Nano and holds around 9000 songs (why would you need that many? lol) for around the same price or maybe a little cheaper. Everywhere I look the Nano seems to be sold out so it is obviously the popular choice right now.......thanks again for your input Dawg.

The Dell Jukebox is a lot bigger in size, but the big difference is the user interface. Apple (remember I am not a huge fan of Apple) has won again on design making the iPod MUCH easier to use effectively. My other business partner has a Jukebox and hates it. He happily sold it on ebay when the Nanos came in.

I use my iPod mainly for audio books (great way to gain information as you drive), but do use it for music as well when my wife and I are going to be in the car. 1,000 songs is way more than enough for me, personally. If you average a song at 3 minutes, a 4 Gb MP3 player will play over 2 days (50 hours) of music straight without repeating! That is a LOT of music. Factor in that the battery lasts 14 hours (extremely long comparitively), then 4 Gb is actually more than you need at any one time.

Be sure to tell Apple who sent you. j/k ;)

Thanks Dawg....I'll let them know.

One last question.....you mentioned a holder designed for the Nano. What's the purpose and cost of this?

I don't know the cost because I don't have one, yet. The purpose in my mind is two-fold: 1. added protection; 2. easier to carry around (i would like to see something that I could attach to my arm while running and also make it stable while I am driving.)
