Don't ever borrow one. This thing is so damn great I have to have one for myself now. A little pricey but if you like listening to music once you try it you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Yup, big thing that stopped me from buying one. Apple is receiving thousands of complaints now. Turns out the battery, which is built in and not replaceable, lasts almost exactly 18 months before it stops holding a charge - and they cannot be replaced. IPOD sites are chock full of complaints right now. I think people were hoping at MacWorld they would announce a solution to it, but nothing so far.

You guys prompted me to check around and ipodbattery.com sells iPod batteries and details how to replace the battery. Obviously it's a pain to crack it open and replace it but I'll deal with it. I would strongly suggest that such a short life span like 18 months is also the result of overcharging the battery.

Any idea if IPOD is going to make a runner's version w/ an arm band? I read somewhere it was in the works but would like one soon. I was going to buy an mp3 player but would hold out since the ipod is sweet.

saint, the problem with making a runners version is that a hard drive based player is always going to be vulnerable to skipping, no matter how small it is. I dont see IPOD making a flash version because there are so many out there.

If you want a suggestion, I bought a 256mb Rio Cali , you can find them on ebay for $150 or so. Great player, been using it about 4 months.

Thanks ace that is actually the exact one I was thinking of buying. I've looked at most on the market and read a lot of reviews and that one seems to be the best. Couple questions though...it has FM radio...does that work decently if I get bored w/ my mp3s? A lot of reviews I read said it didn't work well. Also, is there a shuffle selection or no? Not big things but just am curious. Also, would you trust buying one of those on ebay? I've bought a lot on ebay but w/ electronics I usually worry about problems.

I bought mine on Ebay its worked like a charm.

FM is OK, I mean its not as good as a stereo hooked up to a huge antenna, but you cant expect that from a small mp3 player like this. But I can run in the morning and easily listen to FM.

Yes, there is a shuffle function on the mp3 side.

Great player, like I said no problems in 4 months.

Just wanted to update this thread for future reference in case anyone is in the market.

Found a great deal. At SamsClub I got a 128MB Rio mp3 player for 100 bucks. Then at bestbuy, I bought an additional 256MB memory card for only 60 bucks. So in the end I got 384MB of memory in my mp3 player for about 160 bucks.
